Hi - my apartment and 3 others are trying to get rid of our newly found infestation. The shady PCO my landlord hired has told us a few questionable things:

1 That we can put our things away now, and unbag everything - since they did their first treatment yesterday
2 The next treatment in 10 days will take 5 mins
3 He only treated our bedrooms - and a little in the living rooms..

    Does this sound right?

That doesn't sound right at all. My PCO said I could put my stuff away, but it still needs to be in the plastic for now. For one he sprayed that dust in my dresser drawers and he said it won't hurt me if it gets on my clothes but he said it would take away the effectiveness of it if it is on my clothes and not in the hiding spots of the dresser. Also, I will have to remove them again anyways in two weeks for the second spray. I would leave them in plastic at least, I am sure you don't want to have to do all your laundry again. He should have done all the rooms very through. Just because you haven't seen them in the other rooms doesn't mean that they aren't there. They can travel through the walls and vents.

How thorough was his inspection? If he spent a long and careful amount of time inspecting and after that only felt he had to spend 5 minutes spraying when he comes back, it might be that there were only one or two very specific harbourages of bedbugs that he found. With an excellent PCO, that could be a reason that he only had to treat a little in the living room and 5 minutes when he comes back. I think how long and thoroughly a PCO inspects is even more critical than how long he sprays. Bedbugs are not like roaches, and the way they are treated with pesticides is different.

no - he didn't inspect.. this guy wasn't the brightest crayon in the box.. plus, we had all our furniture moved and mattress up against the wall - bagged.. he didn't even inspect the mattress - and when we asked him about it - he said "oh, you want me to spray that too?"

Oh, you poor kid. He didn't inspect, not even the mattress? You had to ASK him about the mattress? That is shady, in my book. I'm always amazed at how people on this forum sometimes know more about bedbugs than the PCOs who come to treat. I think some PCOs only have experience treating roaches. They come in and treat bedbugs the same way, just using a different pesticide (and charge more of course). As the really good PCOs will tell you, bedbugs are a different game all together. Inspection is a critical component of bedbug treatment.

For him not to spray/inspect your mattress is preposterous. They're called BED bugs for crying out loud!!!!!!!

Agreed. But try to get your LANDLORD to find another PCO and pay. If you simply treat your own place, even if you are willing to pay, but the neighbors are infested, they will simply come back. Your apt. AND all adjacent ones (top, bottom, sides) all need to be inspected carefully--and the others should be treated if need be. Others here have tried to tactfully educate their landlords. bedbugger.com links to lots of articles that may be convincing.
