OK, first off, I know this is not a bed bug. But as a previous sufferer (albeit a one-time event in a hotel) I am scarred in so many ways. Months later, a different location entirely, I wake up at 4:30 a.m. scratching away at my thigh. I have three bites (not in a row but all located in the same general area) and one in the crook of my arm on the other side of my body. The bites all look like mosquito bites (but then so did my bed bug bites previously) and in my sleep I'm sort of aware that I might have heard buzzing. But I also have an odd bruise like mark on my ring finger where I previously had bed bug bites. The bruise disappears the next day. The bruise was not there when I went to bed that I'm aware.

Did a bed inspection ... nothing ... but here is a pic of a flying bug that fell out of my sheets:

It isn't a mosquito but any idea what it is and whether it could have been responsible for the offending bites? I'm in Central Europe if that helps.

Likely a species of midge. Some bite and others do not. Some look more like tiny flies but others more resemble mosquitoes.

EffeCi is an entomologist from Italy and would be the authority on that thing since you are in central Europe.

I believe it's a non biting midge. I'm not an entomologist, but I get these and and other what I think are the biting midges in my windows all the time, especially in the spring time.
