encasements?
(12 posts)-
It occurred to me that even if I DON'T have BBs, which I am still not sure of, it wouldn't hurt to encase my mattress and box spring as a preventative measure - and if I do have them, it might help me not get bitten. Is there anywhere you can go and buy them at a store, or do you need to buy them online?

I just bought mine at Bed Bath and Beyond two days ago. I got ones that were labeled for bedbugs, but my guess is that the experts here have preferred brands.

it all depends on how much money your willing to spend .. but you can get them any where from the local wal-mart to on line here.. just be cautious in where an what you buy it should say BB proof..I also duck taped my zipper just to be extra cautious..

I don;'t mind spending money, but I am an instant gratification kind of girl.
Well, if I wake up tomorrow with new bites I will be. If no new bites, I can order off the internet.
Thanks for the tips. I might try Bed Bath and Beyond. I think we have one right near us (now, if I only didn't work 8-8....). Looks like our local 24hr WalMart doesn't have them in store.

mcsmcs,
An encasement is a very good idea, but just remember that it won't prevent you from getting bitten but it will reduce the number of bites. If there are bugs hiding elsewhere in your room, they can still get at you encasement or no encasement. I still found bugs in my bed after I put mine on. I never did climb ups or anything but my bed has always been away from the wall and I once heard that they will only climb to the ceiling in a high infestation.....not sure how true that information is. Anyways good luck.

Protect A Bed, Mattress Safe & Bedbug.com have encasements. If you were to ask me which I prefer I would have to say either Protect A bed or bedbug.com The quality is alot better and bedbug.com's encasement actually feels like a bed sheet.

Jenn: Yeah, I know it will only make for fewer bites, if that. But it's worth a shot, right? Waiting to see if I get bites even when I haven't been outside.
And Just Use the East Button: I probably will end up ordering off the internet, but if I have a bunch of bites show up today I might buy one for psychological peace.
I like protect-a-bed though....can help prevent allergens??? Sweet! I have tons of those.

I have an exterminator coming today and I will buy mine off him, I have a large mattress, which I think is a king, but seems to have borderline personality disorder because Queen bedsheets are too small for it, while King sheets are always loose and flappy ( but then again I buy my sheets from IKEA and we all know that those sneaky Sweeds make everything in their own "Sultan" sizes....forcing you to purchase everything from them..... ) So having a custom fit will be worth it for me, and they will give me a discount as he will measure while he sprays lol. Good luck with your sleepless nights

i went to bedbug.com and got quality encasements for much less money than protect a bed. I got one queen size mattress cover and boxspring cover, one twin sized mattress cover, and one extra long mattress cover and box spring cover for $154. They are quite comfortable as they are cloth on the outside and plastic on the inside. I found that stores like walmart and such didnt have quality and protect bed is VERY expensive. For the same things I got for $154 Protect a bed wanted over $300.

We do not recommend bedbug.com encasements because I have been unable to acquire testing data on their encasements. (I have enquired via their contact form several times with no response.)
We have seen the testing data for Protect-a-Bed Allerzip and MattressSafe, which both have mechanisms to keep bed bugs out of the zipper end-stop -- a real problem on many encasements. As Watkins suggests you can tape the end stop, but this is not always secure and if bed bugs are inside, you do not want them escaping.

Bedbug.com encasements have velcro at the end of the zipper, and there zipper some how locks in so it can't run open! ( believe me I have tried and the zipper stays in place, I have figured it out yet)
Nobugs if you can give me your email I will send you the attachments.
