Empty hardcase suitcase open in back of a hatchback in the hot sun (m)
(2 posts)-
(And of course, the suitcase will be in a plastic contractor bag...
How hot would it have to be outside for this to *likely* work?
I realize there's no guarantee with this method.
But our suitcase is too big for the packtite...and I sprayed it with Spray GoodNight - and I am going to scrub away at it with a brush for eggs, but I know I'll have to throw it away for my own mental well being unless I do something a lot more drastic than these measures.
I would think the odds of the car being above 120 if it were say 100 degrees out, for a long enough time - wouldnot be that unlikely? There won't be anyting in it.

I have a very old hatch back. (My hatchback is actually older than some of my students, and I teach at a college.)
I live in southern California.
I used a meat thermometer and got readings of 130 to 140 degrees F inside the car on a hot, sunny day.
Honestly, I think what you've done to the suitcase already sounds pretty thorough.
Having spent many a summer day in San Francisco proper, I'm not sure on a sunny day in the city, you'll hit those temps, but head over to the East Bay, or down to San Jose, or up closer to Napa where the temps get higher? And the temps will reach the levels you're looking for.
Using the car to heat any old item up isn't particularly effective.
But an empty suitcase that you've already treated that thoroughly? On a hot enough day? When you're mostly looking to convince yourself?
I would think you'd have a very good shot at that.
