Egg Identification
(3 posts)-
It has been two months since my bed-bug infected relative visited. I have not found any evidence (bugs, stains, skins, etc.) of bed bugs in my house, but I'm still getting the occasional bite 2-3 times a week. A bit late in the year to be mosquito bites, so I am still paranoid.
Today I was combing out my dog and found several little sticky white eggs on the comb. They are about 1 mm across. One was oval shaped like the pics I've seen on this forum, a few looked more round. My camera can't do it justice, so no picture. My question is, can bugs be identified by their eggs? If so, I'll try and locate a local entymologist. Just wondering if anyone here knows before I go to the trouble. Thanks!

Now those sound like flea eggs - Hope they are!

Well, I took my dog to the vet for other issues, and brought in baggies of said eggs and also two small dark bugs I found. She dismissed the "eggs" as dandruff, which may well be the case. She said the bugs did not look quite like fleas, but she found some "flea dirt" that turned reddish brown when she wet it. So, we treat for fleas and I feel a little bit better.
Except then I find a red brown streak on my pillowcase and I'm back to bb paranoia all over again. I wonder what those bugs that didn't look like fleas actually were, though from my own careful examination they did not look like the pics of bbs on this site. They were about 1-2 mm across and dark brown/black. And they were disposed of at the vet office. So now I guess I wait and see if other "signs" manifest themselves.
