Effective PCO in New Brunswick, NJ?
(15 posts)-
Landlord agreed to consider another PCO if I put him in contact with them.. we've had a guy come in a couple times, but he was completely ineffective. He's just been spraying bedlam, etc.
Preferably a process that doesn't require rebagging, packing etc. everything again.
I'm in a studio apartment.
Any recommendations, guys?

I am in the process of using Action Pest Control out of Toms River, NJ. So far, so good. I do like the techs - they seem knowledgeable and everyone in the office has been super helpful. I'll wait a few weeks to let everyone know results!!

I'm in the NB area and currently being treated by RM termite & pest control. The guy who came to perform the first treatment seemed knowledgeable and did a thorough job (I watched to make sure). My second treatment is coming up next week, I'll let you know how it goes.

I am in Philly, also using Action from Toms river. I know they travel all over the place, even Long Island. I agree with everything said above by lasoulta. Good techniques, good people. Seems like the dog found the right spots; have only had two bites in the past week. Tomorrow is the follow-up treatment; I'll try to remember to let you know how it went.
good luck

What I like so far the most about RM Termite & Pest is that even though I'm paying near $700 for 2 BB treatments, it comes with a 6 month guarantee! Plus from what I was told I can extend that to a year for $200-300 or so.
Sure, I hope I don't have to use it, but given my extremely unpleasant, life-altering experience with the bed bugs so far, just having that piece of mind is very comforting. -
Does RM use a dog and are they incorporating a steam treatment along with chemical application?
-
No dog was used with their inspection. They tell me they don't use steam at all in their treatment regiments for a number of logistical reasons (I was told: dangerous, people get burned, it's tricky, and may cause problems in the walls, i.e. mold - the biggest reason was it tends to inexorably damage property or woodwork). For my first treatment here anyway, they used a multifaceted pyrethrin attack.
Essentially they laid down a base spray (quite liberally, I might add), then did the outlets and switches (plates removed) with what appeared to be a very concentrated pyrethrin (it left a powdery effect around it), the walls and baseboards were then fogged with some chemical (presumably another pyrethrin), and finally before leaving they bombed it. The explanation I was given was that it would force them all out and they would go through the poison, hopefully, that seemed to be the general idea anyway. This seems to be pretty much in line with most of the other decent PCO's I previously read about here - moreover, the guy seemed experienced and knowledgeable (we talked and he mentioned he has treated many-a BB infestation). -
Sounds like he's taking good care of you. Best of luck. Don't be too critical of the steam though, i have found it to be very effective. I haven't had any employees get burned... nor destroyed anyones personal belongings, but then again, we have some of the most qualified and trained technicians in the industry.
i will admit that some of the high end hotels in NYC have very delicate and overly expensive furnishings..common sense will tell you not to steam those types of items...

Yeah, a friend of mine heavily embraced vacuuming and steaming, to much success, when she had her own bed bug problem about 10 or so months ago.
Yeah, gold-leafed trim on an elaborate antique wooden molding, I wouldn't want to steam that!

Action - Did you receive my PM?

Does anyone know anyone who does thermal? Found Jeff Klein's contact from the forums, but haven't been able to reach him. Don't want to rebag everything again.
-
Cooper Pest has thermal. Not sure if anyone else in NJ does.

HI Jeff,
The general rule here is if you're going to recommend a company, mention any connection you have to it. It may not be obvious to newcomers that Bed Bug Central (mentioned in your profile) is related to Cooper Pest.
I think Cooper's excellent, but just want to be fair and ask everyone to follow the same rule.
Thanks!

Ugh.. I know NJ law says that landlords have to "treat" bed bugs issue, but is there anything that says treatment has to be effective?
I just talked to the guy who runs the management company, and he said he won't do thermal, as he's only looking to spend a couple hundred bucks.. and that if I couldn't find someone, they'd find someone else.
Coupled with the last guy they sent, who only sprayed bedlam, I'm getting the feeling they just want a stop gap solution so I don't sue them..
Man, it's been a couple months.. and I'm seriously getting pissed off at this issue I can't fix.

By the way - does anyone know why thermal is so much more expensive in NJ than on the west coast? Saw a quote for California in another thread, 1 bedroom for $850..
I spoke to some guys today who quoted me $1500 for my 300 square foot studio. I want to get thermal done, but that's not within the price range, either for my landlord to pay for it, or for me to get fed up and pay for it myself.

I HAVE USED ACTION PEST CONTROL. THEY ARE GROSSLY OVERBOOKING AND ARE NOT RELIABLE. THEY BLEW OFF APPOINTMENTS SENT ONE MAN, AN ASSISTANT TO DO OUR FIRST TREATMENT EVEN THOUGH THEY PROMISED IN THE CONTRACT THAT WE WOULD GET THEIR LEAD MAN. THE WAY THEY SCREWED US STARTING ON THE FIRST DAY WAS THEY KEPT CALLING US TELLING US EMIL WOULD BE LATE AND THE TIME KEPT GETTING LATER AND LATER. SINCE WE HAD DONE ALL THE PREP WE WERE OVER A BARREL SO IN ORDER TO GET A MAN THAT DAY WE HAD TO AGREE TO USE THE ASSISTANT. IT TURNS OUT THAT OUR MATTRESSES WHICH HAD BEEN TREATED PREVIOUSLY AND ENCASED WERE NEVER RETREATED THAT DAY. THAT IS JUST THE BEGINNING OF OUR ORDEAL WITH ACTION. THEY ARE GRABBING THE CHECKS LIKE MAD AND CONSTANTLY CUTTING CORNERS. THEY USE DOGS. THE WAY THEY USE DOGS IS TO CUT CORNERS. IF A DOG DOESN'T GET A HIT THEY DON'T TREAT THAT AREA. DOGS ARE NOT 100% RELIABLE AND NEITHER IS ACTION. WE STILL HAVE BEDBUGS AFTER OVER THREE MONTHS WITH THEM AND NOW AFTER THEY BASICALLY DUMPED US AND MISSED CRITICAL APPOINTMENTS WE ARE OUT OF WARRANTEE AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE US AGAIN. WE HAVE CONSTANTLY BEEN BUMPED FROM ONE REPRESENTATIVE TO ANOTHER. FIRST IT WAS LORRIE, THEN SUE, THEN MELANIE, THEN BACK TO LORRIE. THEY ALSO PROMISED US THAT ON OUR SECOND VISIT THEY WOULD STEAM THE FURNITURE AGAIN. THEY DIDN'T DO IT. PROMISED US PRO-ZAP PEST CONTROL STRIPS. WE DID GET THEM...EVENTUALLY AFTER THEY DIDN'T BRING THEM WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD. THEY CLAIM THAT THEY HAVE NEVER HAD A HOUSE THAT THEY DIDN'T CLEAR OF BEDBUGS. I AM HERE TO TELL YOU OUR HOUSE IS NOT CLEAR. THEY OFFER A CERTAIN LEVEL OF TREATMENT AND THAT'S ALL THEY DO. IT WORKS FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE BUT NOT ALL AND WHEN IT DOESN'T WORK IT'S TOUGH LUCK. THEY ARE THOROUGH ENOUGH FOR SOME HOMES AND NOT THOROUGH ENOUGH FOR OTHERS. WE ARE ONE OF THE OTHERS. WE ARE THINKING ABOUT TAKING LEGAL ACTION.
