Eeducational Email...what are your thoughts?
(20 posts)-
I'm starting a chian mail email. I know I hate chain mails, but if it is something educational and can be supported by fact then it's always something of interest IMO. I' going to put a picture of a BB with a few facts and forward it to everyone I know.
Education is key and the internet is an easy place to spread the education. What are your feelings on this? If anyone is interested in receiving the email send me a PM. I'll be sending it out monday evening!
THANKS!

I think it's a good idea. I receive so many useless chain mail, it'll be nice to be involved with one that is serving an purpose.

Very good idea. Education is so very important. Just please don't end the email with one of those cheesy...'send this to 10 people and your bedbugs will be gone tomorrow... etc!' He-he

I think a chain e-mail might be effective. People seem to put more stock into those than do anything else. Plus maybe then we could make Snopes. Ooh! I'm gunna check snopes for bed bug stuff.
Something funny (to me), the Google feedback ad on this page is trying to sell chains because we are talking about chain mail. - LOL Intuitive software gives me the giggles

If you send out to a lot of people, put their e-mails in the BCC so everyone doesn't see the e-mail. Be sure to put some good links in it, including the one for this forum. I think an e-mail could go out about bedbugs that could be so scary that people would think it was an urban legend--but of course it isn't. They ARE that bad. We all know.

Let me know if you want access to some images.

Thanks everyone on the positive feedback! I would love some good photos of bed bugs!
I wouldn't add the "if you don't send this to ten people you'll suffer from bed bug infestations for the rest of your life" but I was thinking more along the lines of "If you don't foward this you will not meet the love of your life, die in 7 days etc...However you may be able to educate a framily member, friend or neighbor. Knowledge is power."
Any sudgestions of what you would want to see in a short but informative email relating to bed bugs?
I'm hoping that this will spread fast...faster than the epidimic

Hi,
Drop me an email or PM with the ones you want off the website or if you want a specific type or something generated let me know. I have a lot of live samples at the moment but would rather not have too many feeding shots if you know what I mean.

Great idea! Can I suggest that you include something along the lines of "they aren't just in your bed/mattress etc" and maybe something like "they're in 5 star hotels too, they don't discriminate" so people will realize just how rampant and awful bed bugs are?

I hate to bump this back up but...sorry it took until tonight to get the email ready to be sent out. Life has been kinda crazy since getting back from NC. If anybody would like this sent out to them so they can forward it please send me a pm!

I had a horrible thought last night :
What if I got BBs as some sort of punishment for not sending out all those chain letters I regularly receive? Those chain letters always threaten that terrible things will happen to you if you don't forward it. Perhaps these BBs are linked to previous chain letters!! And one of them threatened 16 years of bad luck, which would mean I still have 15.5 years left!

Itchy - I had the same thought weeks ago. After warning my family, I haven't deleted any of those annoying emails, just forwarded them on to my forewarned family. Sad that we are trying to assume blame for these buggers
I received the email that Vampireminionprey sent out to educate folks about bedbugs. It is a GREAT email - full of information and well presented. Great job! Definitely an email to forward.... -
check your pm's

You might also consider mentioning also http://newyorkvsbedbugs.org and Chicago vs. Bed Bugs -- two grassroots activism campaigns trying to get local government officials to take bed bugs seriously, and take action.
(I'm involved with both and I encourage all NYC and Chicago folks to check them out!)
(Admin note: Link removed above to Chicago vs. bed bugs: group is no longer active and their website has been taken down as of 12/1/2010).

There are a few people who have requested the email that have yet to receive it. If you have not, please pm me your email address or leave it here in code (ie how Nobugs did)
I encorage anyone who has received it to add helpful websites to it before they pass it along.
Thanks for all of the great sugestions guys! It's not much but I really hope this will get out there and be a success.

I am not trying to be mean; please don't take it that way ...
My suggestion would be to have the email proof read for spelling and grammatical errors before it is sent out. I have read some of the posts here and the last thing that you would want is for your email to lose credibility before it even gets off the ground.
Sincerely,
Sean.

Definitely yes! Glad you thought of it. I plan on writing to the governor of my State regarding the need for accurate public information published in every medium that is available.
Ditto on the spellcheck and grammar check. Maybe run it by a few people (fresh eyes) a few times. I do not take anything in print seriously that has even one error in it. My English professor drilled that into us.
Make it happen!

I don't take offense to it at all. Constructive criticism is what I was looking for which is why I wanted everybody's opinion on here. Thank you Sean.
