My mattress & boxspring protectors have various splotches, gotten when the bedbug was crushed on them instead of in the tissue I was trying to pick them off with. Is there a way to make them white again?

    I'm guessing I shouldn't wash them.

I'd be willing to cover with white duct tape, but it doesn't stick too well, and thus provides hiding places instead of making sure the bugs stand out

They may have instructions which allow for washing (or don't).

In any case, I would contact the manufacturer about whether dyeing is okay. Remember that adding a chemical may have an effect on the materials.

Obviously, if the encasement may have bed bugs inside (in other words, you had bed bugs, and they have not been sealed completely for 18 months with no tears or gaps), then you don't want to remove it.
