help! i have gotten a bunch of bites on my leg. i first noticed them last week, right before i moved apartments, and thought that they were mosquito bites, because i was moving. i have never noticed any other signs of bedbugs, although i did notice a small orangey red bug run very quickly out of my old typewriter when i picked it up. it hid in a crack in the wall. my old apartment was in a very slummy house and even when i cleaned, it was pretty dirty, so it's hard to tell whether there was feces there or not. there was definitely mouse poop in a lot of less obvious places. i've looked at all my things that i've moved here: bed linens, mattress, etc. my frame is metal and i didn't see any evidence there....

that is my leg, sideways. they are mostly on that leg, a few on the right leg, and one bite of some kind on my hand. my boss thought they were flea bites because they are close to my ankle and in a line. all of them are very itchy but not really any more or less than mosquito bites i've had in the past (i usually get eaten up pretty badly when i'm outside for any length of time).

i've looked all over my bed and bed linens and haven't found anything... except today, i noticed that on the side of the pillow cover (not a pillow case, but a zipped cloth cover that goes over the pillow), where i hadn't looked, were numerous pale, faded reddish dots.

that's what they look like, sorry for the horrible picture, most of them are close to the bottom left... there are two streaks of about an inch long and then mostly the little dots. they are a very, very light reddish orange and spread out at fairly even intervals along the pillow cover. i have only found them on this one pillow cover though, and on the one side. could that be bedbug spots? i looked inside the pillow as well and couldn't find anything and i haven't been bitten on my upper body at ALL. i've been going crazy reading up on bedbugs and fleas, my roommate claims they are mosquito bites because she has something similar on her legs and knows that they are mosquitoes, but these streaks really have me worried.

how big are the fecal dots? i found what i thought was mouse poop in one of my drawers but could it possibly be bed bugs? it's larger than what i thought bed bug poop would look like.

this is the mouse poop, i just wanted to make sure it wasn't bedbug crap before i clean it up...

    Hi,

Yes the image is mouse poo.

Sorry cant tell enough from bite pictures to be conclusive but the pattern of activity on the legs does point towards fleas.

I would use a plug in flea trap to confirm, continue cleaning up and checking things as you go.

Faecal traces are most commonly described as like black dots left with a felt tip pen soaked into the surface. If you run a dry light finger across something and it moves its not bed bug related. If it appears almost painted on a saliva soaked q tip run through will smear like a comet and can be an indicator. They are rarely more than 2 or 3 mm in diameter.

    Hope that helps.

that is helpful, yes, or at least it makes me feel a lot better. the stains on my pillow are a very light red... they are very tiny like that, but definitely not black.

my roommate's boyfriend was staying here with his dog recently, but he checked today and didn't see any flea activity on the dog itself. i'm going to try putting out a soapy dish of water under a desk lamp tonight to see if i catch any fleas in it and i guess i'll go from there.
