Disposal of bed bug sample

How do I safely dispose of the bed bugs that I caught last month? I want to get them out of my house, but I fear simply putting them out for garbage collection is not very responsible. The city suggests putting them in the freezer first but I read on here that 2 weeks minimum undisturbed is recommended to kill them. I already have them caught in tape so heat doesn't seem to be an option at this point.

Maybe there is something that I don't understand but unless there are 100s of them, can't you just smoosh them. Killing bugs is not generally very difficult once you have them caught.

They're caught on tape? Seal them in a good zipper bag and make sure to push the air out before you seal it-- because in my experience, a ziploc full of air is more likely to burst. Toss in trash.
If you are really nervous, you can fill the (small) ziploc with detergent or alcohol, but this is probably overkill.

Make sure you won't be needing them, also. For example, if you end up taking a landlord to housing court, nothing like a bag of bed bugs to show the judge.
