Different Species?
(3 posts)-
Has anyone seen any articles on whether the treatments for different species (or subgroups--apologies if I get the terms wrong. I'm not a biologist, let alone an entomologist, and my last bio class was a long time ago) are any different or whether different treatments have different rates of success on any of the subtypes of bedbugs?

Hi,
I have found no differences between Cimex lectularius and Cimex hemipterus in terms of treatment methods but the strategy and approach is very different with Martin Bugs (Oeciacus hirundinis) and Bat Bugs (Cimex adjunctus) because the primary infestation route is different to Bed Bugs.
I would not rule out the fact that certain species are more resistant to others but to be honest its another piece of research that is sorely needed.
I would however say that in the UK Bat Bug and Martin Bug infestations are a lot less common than Bed Bugs, although I get calls about then they are usually at the other end of the country and not particularly viable to head out and treat.
Hope that helps a little.

I'm not sure if this is more what you were looking for but my PCO said that the type of bed bugs we have in the DC/VA area or at least in the area I live in are a strain from Africa and therefore can be drug resistant to certain pesticides so they have to constantly be thinking about types of treatments.
