Did you spread bed bugs to another house?

I am curious to know if any of you accidentally spread bed bugs to a friend's house by visiting or sleeping there. I know most people on this forum are trying to get educated and be bug free, but I am sure we all made mistakes without knowing it.
I have read that BB's can hitch a ride on a shoe, back pack, etc. After my tenant told us about her BB problem she moved in with us for a few days (and brought a few of her things with her) . We had no idea how dangerous this was at the time. I guess I am just wondering about my chances of not getting infested at this point. I haven't seen a BB yet in my house.
How easily do they hitch a ride from one building to another separate building? We do not share walls.
