If putting on encasement as a preventative measure, do you throw them in the dryer first? I just think that you might always have someone who tried to return a set and you never know. What hove most of you done?

I didn't. Although it is a possibility, I don't think the chances are that high, plus, to the naked eye I don't see any bed bugs or eggs on it(though the eggs would be a lot harder to see on a white surface).

Frankly I'm just not sure of the likelihood that, in my area, there would be someone who has bedbugs who just happens to have returned their encasement-- which, again, just so happens to be the one I picked up.

In bigger cities that could be a problem though.

I'm in one of those "bigger" cities. Bought one today, thought about it, turned around and returned it.

I bought my encasement on-line from National Allergy. When you order on-line, items are picked directly from a warehouse of other new items. No shoppers have been going through them. My encasement came sealed up and I felt pretty secure.

The encasements I bought from Bed Bath and Beyond were sealed in plastic... so, no, I wasn't worried about it.

Were the Bed Bath and beyond the "clean Rest" type? I noticed that their mattress cover says bb proff, but the box spring type does not.

I ordered mine from a place that stated NO RETURNS precisely for the reasons listed above. Even before bed bugs invaded my world, I always thought it was pretty disgusting that stores allowed returns of pillows and bedding.

Yes, we got the Clean Rest ones from BB&B. They aren't the best but they're what was available, and they worked for us. (We DID duct-tape over the ends of the zippers.) I didn't notice the disparity in the packaging, but I can say for sure that the box spring cover does prevent bedbugs from coming in (or, in our case, out).

Of course it's best to get something specifically for BB... however, I believe that, in general, anything that advertises protection from dust mites will also work on bedbugs, since mites are smaller than even the tiniest BB. Maybe one of the old-timers can weigh in on that one.

I got my encasements from Mattress Safe and they have the special locked zipper on both the one fo r the mattress and the one for the boxspring. I used regular zippered pillow protectors but am wondering if they sell special ones for bedbugs?
