Detection dog in B-more?
(3 posts)-
Hi folks, I need to find an inspection dog in our area as I may have brought BBs to my lovely rowhouse from a horribly infested hotel in PA 4 weeks ago. I didn't stay overnight, as I discovered them after I'd been in bed for 2 hours and checked out right away, and I took a lot of precautions when I got home but I still don't know if I have them. Since I got in the car right after checking out of the hotel (we had nothing to bag our luggage in so it went right in the trunk, and the dogs went right in the back seat), I'm paranoid they're in the car and we and my dogs are at risk of bringing them in the house (if they're not there already).
My husband had a line of bites on his forehead 2 weeks ago (not itchy) but it hasn't recurred and I haven't had anything. But that got me to tear the place apart cleaning and decluttering and laundering/bagging everything. I had a PCO come check my bedroom and he didn't see anything, but I'm not sure he would because we are so early in the process. I check every night for blood spotting/smearing on the sheets and bed frame and have seen nothing (though now I am convinced that every tiny spec of black dust/dirt or black fleck on my wooden bed frame is BB poop--how can you really know?). Last night I saw a tiny red speck crawling on the corner of my bed frame as I was getting into bed and when I touched it with my finger it left a red blood smear on the frame--maybe it was a nymph who had been feeding on my dog who was already in the bed? Or maybe it was just a mite. There's no way to tell because there was not a trace of it left after I squished it.
So what I'd like is to have a dog come through the house so I can prevent any rogues from getting themselves established. If anyone can recommend one, I'd appreciate it. My dogs sleep all over the house, and they sleep under the bed then jump up on top of the bed, and I'm so afraid they are just spreading these things around but I'm not seeing them because I have carpet and they are so sneaky and good at hiding. As I mentioned in a separate post earlier today I am literally losing my mind with the anxiety of this. I feel rather PTSD-ish, constantly reliving the discovery of them ON MY PILLOW in the hotel room and the experience of pulling back the sheet to find several scurrying around. Honestly, if this happens in my house I will have reached my limit. Anyway, sorry for the long post. Just hoping to find a dog.

Biskit, what did you wind up doing? I am in Charles Village living in what I am very afraid is a bug-infested sublet (rowhouse). My partner thinks there is no way we can treat or should treat, but I at least want to find a PCO to try to confirm what we're dealing with. Did you find a detection dog? Did you use some other steps? So far we have many "bites" but no clear evidence.
