Dead bed bug... and a nauseating smell?
(7 posts)-
Long story short, our bed bug problem dwindled and nearly went away for almost a month, until just recently they're coming back. I'm assuming from the unit above us. Since our PCO and LL didn't go with a proper treatment, I'm sure they've spread (see previous posts of mine).
Anyway, I noticed them coming back two weeks ago. Now they're sluggish or acting as though they're dead or dying so I'm guessing they're just trying to get away from whatever's being used in other units (maybe?). Until tonight.
I found a dead one on my bedsheets, picked it up and noticed a funny, nutty (peanuts, almost) smell coming from it except it immediately made me nauseated to the point of your heart racing and throat going dry right before you heave. Sorry, TMI.. heh.
Anyway, I'm curious if this has happened to anyone before? It was definitely a bedbug shape but I wrapped it in duct tape and threw it out. I don't want it in my room and promptly washed my hands, sprayed down the area of my bed with Febreeze to rid the smell. I'm kind of getting panicky and paranoid over this, because the smell made me feel so sick I'm all "what the hell this never happened before".
Help ease my concerns? :\
EDIT: My best friend just Googled and said Neem oil apparently smells like peanuts and is used to keep bed bugs away, and that perhaps someone had used it and it managed to get back into my room. I don't know. I'm freaking out and I sound so silly but part of my OCD/anxiety is phobia of being sick/death so anything that has the potential to be lethal/poison me/make me sick is an instant alarm bell in my head. I must sound so stupid.

hey ghost
i bet its neem. neem oil smells pretty darn vile (imho) but yes, in a peannutty but sharper and more acrid kind of way. i never tried it for bbs, but a friend once made me try it in my hair (supposed to be good for hair). vile. i had to wash it out immediately. neem oil won't hurt you -it just smells bad.

Ghost,
Glad to hear that you had some success. That's a good sign that you can recapture. I read another post that told a similar story, about the bugs coming into the apartment because of treatment in another unit. Can you get another go around from the PCO?
I'm relieved to think we hadn't heard from you because you were doing better, rather than the other way around.
In my opinion,

I think you need to not sniff bed bugs. LOL

Bed Bugs also have a strong earthy musky scent especially when you squish them. Kinda like Coriander spice. You're right, it is an overwhelming smell. Just like cockroaches have a certain stench to them I guess this is the BB stench. If you move somewhere or visit a place and it has a coriander stench-look out! that is a sign of a heavy infestation.

It was actually nutty, almond-y almost. I found out later it was the tenants above us using neem oil, and the dying bugs would come down into my unit, and the smell was atrocious. One crawled on my bed? It would smell the entire bedspread up D:
