DE is like asbestos: Use Extreme Caution!!!
(2 posts)-
I've been reading some of the posts regarding DE. Some users have said that it shouldn't be inhaled. I registered in order to tell viewers as to why: DE is like asbestos. It is ancient ancient earth. Once you breathe it in, it is in your lungs - forever. This is why it kills bed bugs. Please don't sprinkle it all around your apartment without using a mask or a respirator. This information about how DE should be used came from my union. DE is in the dusting powders used in theatre productions to make costumes look dirty, because it will attach itself to the clothing. It is NEVER supposed to be applied without the use of a respirator, and certainly never while anyone is wearing the clothing. Yes, DE is the accepted method used for pest control for organic meats, ie. cattle, sheep, etc. But note: the DE is being put on the animal outside, with ventilation, and (hopefully) with the recommended protective masks. I don't know about DE and vacuuming, but I do wonder if, like asbestos, it should not be vacumed as vacuuming asbestos is extremely toxic (apparently if you vacuum asbestos the vacuum should be thrown out). I just think that users should know the health risks of all pest control methods.

Their are hucksters and other folks all over the place ignoring any and all information that points to potential hazards. It is F'ing sad but the science and facts are out there.
