DDVP strips in cars?
(5 posts)-
Hi folks - I read hoo2677 posting about the NUVAN strip in the car and i was a bit curious. I had a terrible infestation in my car which took a LONG time and a lot of steaming to get out so I am not thinking of using these strips - but I wanted to have some experts weigh in just in case
If the NUVAN strips are DDVP - isn't that chemical corrosive to metal? it seems to me that DDVP would be really toxic in car unless it is well aired out - but i read the NUVAN website and they list areas of usage as motor homes and RV's - which could extend to cars as well
Wouldn't the DDVP chemical corrode the metal wiring in a car? Isn't it WAY too toxic to use safely in a car? I am not being critical of hoo2677 - I just would like some clarification for my own knowledge
NUVAN has a small strip and a large strip so conceivably the small strip could be used in a car
I am just curious
please advise

Thanks for asking Adele. My PCO (former) and the manufacturer both assure me that after the car airs out, no problem. Of course I worry about what they don't know, but steaming my car for 6 freakin hours didn't even begin to help (ford suv hybrid escape) Complex interior if you are fighting these A-holes. PCO's wanna weigh in?

Nuvan is professional use only, therefore unless you have a license you can't buy it (supposedly). Hot Shot No-Pest strips are the version (same active, basically the same product, slightly different labels) that are available at your Lowe's, Home Depot's, etc...
Here's a long thread on DDVP No Pest Strips that goes through a lot of it:
http://bedbugger.com/forum/topic/ddvp-no-pest-strips-information#post-26481A video on Nuvan that I shot last week, I think, my weeks are bleeding together:
http://tv.bedbugcentral.com/index.php/2009/04/bbctv-22-nuvan-prostrips/A video on No-Pest Strips:
http://tv.bedbugcentral.com/index.php/2008/10/bbctv-episode-5-product-review-hot-shot-no-pest-strips/Research shows that extended exposure to DDVP (months, years, etc...) could be corrosive to metal. A few weeks should not have any effect. This all being said, why are you treating your car in the first place? Car infestations are not that common as I've been doing this for years and haven't seen one yet. I know there are a few people on this site who have had their car infested but it's still uncommon. If you're as uncomfortable with the thought as you sound, unless you have a confirmed infestation in your car, treating it may be an overreaction.

Jeff - thank you for your kind response
I read all the threads before I posted but could not preview your video as I seem to be having issues with my computer's speakers
At this point I am not intending to treat my car with the strips, however, I went through a very unusual infestation (all my belongings were contaniminated from a storage locker) and my car was actually extremely infested from stuff that I had taken out of the locker and placed in my car
I don't believe it is infested now although I don't know if I will ever be certain it is not contaminated. Leaving out all winter and not driving it along with continuoulsy steaming the interior and DE placed under the seats and under the carpet seems to have helped as I have been driving it again recently
I was asking in case I still had problems with it
thanks again Jeff

Hi Jeff, I had my car treated because it was infested with BB. Not because I thought it might be. I infested it early in this problem, probably January. As silly as it might sound, I had taken naps on my lunch hour in the back seat regularly. This keeps me in a good mood as I am a tech support professional for a web hosting company. After the infestation began, sleep was, as you can imagine, THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN MY LIFE. I never imagined I was bringing them with me as I developed my learning curve (of course NOW I UNDERSTAND), but at that point I did not "get" much about these can be spread. So when I steamed my car the first time, BB's were literally running amok in the car trying to escape. It was mortifying. The first 1 week application of the strip did not do the trick. Seemed like it did for three weeks then bites. I believe one week was not enough to kill everything (eggs) based on the level of infestation I witnesses during that steaming. So we did it again, they took it out (the PCO) after another week, this time it just pissed the bugs off. I could see many dead bugs, and the f'ing PCO came and took some as "samples." Later they told me they found no bugs in the samples. BULLSH**T. They were trying to protect themselves from litigation from the first failure where they told me both, I was the first one they had used the strip with, AND that it would kill EVERYTHING. So anyway, the second, and now the third treatment were free, and I insisted they leave the last strip in three weeks after I called the manufacturer in TX and talked with him about how they had conducted their tests, eggs, length of time, bla bla...
I think my car is clean now, and I'm going to do everything I can (now that I know) not to reinfect.
