Hi - would somebody please explain to me HOW DE damages vacuums? I've decided to use my central vac because the system is very tightly sealed, and I spray steri-fab through the system before & after use, plus directly into the canister. I'm considering using DE but wonder if it will damage my central vac as it has been reported to damage conventional vacs. If so, I'll buy another vac exclusively for the bb war.

DE is an abrasive dust that may affect the moving parts it makes contact with in the system. I don't know how much of a problem it would be with your whole house system. There might be a filter to protect the moving parts. Otherwise, you could just puff some DE into the dirt collection canister to kill any survivors. The major advantage of using the central system is that it is more powerful than a portable vacuum.

Would DE affect a wet-dry vac? They seem to be constructed differently.
