couch encasement

How do you guys feel about sofa encasements? If I duct tape all staples and put cardboard on footings, then duct tape zipper after closing? I was told to get rid of my couch by PCO because its leather and impossible to treat basically. I do not have the money for a new one(couch) as of right now so i bought one of these sofa encasements but I am thinking of it more and more and wondering if me purchasing this is just some false sense of security and may end up in a horrible decision. I cant find any testing on this product like has been done on aller-zip mattress encasements. Any advice/reviews?

I would absolutely throw it out. Your PCO will be working to get rid of your bedbugs but, if you keep your couch, they will still be alive and living inside there. One small tear and the bugs will come out and re-infest your apartment. It doesn't seem worth the risk at all and the peace of mind when you get rid of the couch is worth any amount of money. Our couch was the most popular place for the bugs in our apartment and you might be getting rid of the last of the bugs in your apartment by discarding your sofa.
I've actually been living a few months without a couch, as I want to be certain our problem is resolved before buying new stuff. I set up some easy to clean chairs in the living room and it's not so bad. I do miss the couch, but truly consider it worth it as I haven't been bitten or seen a bug in several months now.
