Climb Up Interceptors question
(5 posts)-
I just got the climb up interceptors, as I suspect I might have a new infestation after a year and a half of being clean. My question is this: how do they get "trapped" in the center tray, where the bedpost sits? Can't they just climb back up and set up camp somewhere on the bed? I have mattress protectors, but I assume they could still harbor in between the mattress & box spring, along the frame, etc. Or does the talc powder stick to them & prevent them from climbing?

I am also wondering the same thing. I bought the interceptors and have been using them for a little over a week. I've caught bed bugs in the outer rim but never any inside the center well. I just now talc-ed the bed post itself to see if that would make a difference.

The talc makes it "slippery" so that they can't climb up.

I've ordered the climb-ups for monitoring purposes (they haven't arrived yet, so I apologize if the instructions cover this!), and have the same question re: the bed posts...should talc also be applied to the bedposts so that BB's climbing down from the bed can't climb back up? Also, wouldn't a BB climbing down from the bed turn back around once it got to the talc area of the bed post? If they avoid glue traps and sticky tape...wouldn't they avoid talc, as well?
OR, as Bekalekah asked, do they get enough talc on their legs while walking in the center well that they can't climb anymore?
Livingwithbbs - did you find any in the center well after applying talc to the bed post?

Yeah, I don't think the Climb-Ups are really useful for distinguishing which direction the bugs are traveling.
It's not clear how frequently the bugs decide to leave the bed and go wandering, while it is very clear that bugs around the house are going to head for the bed at least every week, or so. So, the "bed->house" direction is much less likely to catch bugs than the "house->bed" direction, anyway. Might as well take it out of the equation completely by sterilizing the bed (and keeping it bug-free) before isolating it with the monitors.
