Cleared by dog, but...?
(10 posts)-
Just looking for some feedback/encouragement...Champ, the dog from M&M, did not find any evidence in my apt. last Friday. My skin still feels itchy/sensitive, and I sometimes seem to have a small red bump (usually on my upper back) but they don't look exactly the same as my initial bites.
I'm definitely not going to start taking anything out of plastic, but I'd like to be able to relax a little. Are others in the same situation? How sure should I be that they're gone? (I've read all the posts about skin sensitivity and about bedbug dogs.)
Thanks!

A good dog and handler should be 95% effective . How many days since your last bite ? Have you started to count down your 55 days yet ?
Its extremely stressful to have something that attacks you where your suppose to feel most safe in the world your bed . As long as you wake up each morning without any new bites you will slowly start to feel better the best you can do is search the bed every couple of days and count down the 55 days . best of luck -

I find new unexplained marks on my skin every week... It is normal to be itchy & focused on any new mark on our skin.
Consider a set of Climb Up Insect Interceptors on your bed for long term monitoring to help confirm the K9 findings & provide some additional assurance.
Glad to hear that your inspection brought good news.

Thanks so much, Doug. My PCO is going to install a NightWatch, although that's clearly a short-term monitoring device since I'll have to give it back eventually! (How long do you think I should try to keep it for?)
Assuming the NightWatch helps to confirm the dog's findings, how long do you think I should keep living this insane Ziploc life? While I hate living like this, I would much rather be certain I've done everything perfectly than face the prospect of having to go through any of this again. Looking ahead to whenever that day might be that I take my belongings out of plastic, I'm wondering if anyone has used a dog inspection at that point -- maybe opening all of the containers and bags and spreading them out, but not taking the contents out yet, then having the dog inspect again. While I know I did as perfect a job as I could inspecting and cleaning everything that I packed away, it's hard to trust that there's really nothing in there...

I have arranged for NYBedbugdogs to come and inspect my house. Does anyone know if they are a good company?

Update: so, now my landlord apparently won't pay the PCO for the Nightwatch, so that's not happening. I continue to be itchy every day, and regularly find new pimple-like spots on my back, arms, and legs. I don't know whether these are bites or something that is normally on my skin but wouldn't normally itch (EVERYTHING itches now that my skin is so sensitive from the bedbugs -- like the ring that the top of my sock leaves on my skin). I don't know how I'll ever be able to know or trust that the bugs are really gone.

There are a couple of websites that have very similar names... If you have hired Action Pest Control from NJ, then you are in good hands.
If it is another company... Identify the name of the dog, handler & company... Send the info to me in a PM & I will be glad to share some feedback on the team you have selected.

Consider trying the inexpensive passive monitors like Climb Up Insect Interceptor or BB Alert instead of the Nightwatch. The passive monitor do a good job in an occupied residence. -
NYC, while not being familiar with your entire story I would suggest you schedule an appointment with a dermatologist. The marks you are seeing may be explicable as bites but it's worth having a skin pro check them out as they could possibly be another kind of bite or maybe a separate condition. It's certainly true that you may benefit from an outside perspective.

I went to a dermatologist this week and while she said "we see bedbug cases all the time" and seemed relatively informed (I had to correct her a few times), in the end she didn't give me any new information about why I might still be experiencing itchy red spots. I mentioned that I am showering more due to the bedbugs and she said that that's probably it. She also said it's physiologically impossible that one's skin would become more sensitive as a result of bedbugs -- maybe one particular area of skin if it was heavily bitten, but not your skin overall. This was surprising to me, since it was what I was assuming had happened to me.
