We'd like to avoid chemicals in our toddler's bedroom. Does anyone know of a PCO that does steam treatment. We're also considering doing it ourselves with a rented steamer but the PCO would do a better job. Thanks.

Yes, lots. You have to call some local firms and ask about options. Most companies seem to use a combination of methods and may apply chemicals or a dust after treatment.

If you want to avoid that entirely, keep in mind steam is a contact killer and must be used multiple times in most cases. (The exception would be a device like the kind EffeCi uses in Italy, which is more powerful, but AFAIK this is not widely used in the US right now, if at all.)

Structual heat treatment may be an option also. It's a lot more pricey but is supposed to eliminate the problem in one treatment if done properly by a knowledgeable and experienced firm.

Threads tagged Chicago PCOs may be useful. A lot of people here seem to have successfully used Smithereen in Chicago but I do not know if steam is one of their options.

    Dear bbin chicago,

    At our properties we:
    > vacuum
    > steam
    > apply pesticides
    > install encasements
    > use pest strips
    > use climb up blockers

We get excellent results using these methodologies.

We also use heat but also in combinaton with pesticide applications.

You can either limit the use of pesticides if this is a concern or not use pesticides. However, it will be necessary to make up for omitting pesticide applications by imcluding suitable measures.

    good luck, paul b.
