My mother-in-law's apartment is infested with bed bugs. What precautions should I take when she rides with me in my car? I take her to doctor's appointments and shopping 1-2 times a week. I keep my car in our garage, so it doesn't sit out in the hot summer sun for long periods of time. Maybe I'm just being paranoid.

Hi beach, are you following the laundering routine per the FAQs for your mother-in-law's clothes? And protecting her shoes? (If you visit the infested apartment, you should also follow clothing precautions.) Perhaps there is not that much risk, though, since as I remember, she is not staying in the infested apartment anymore and presumably there is no evidence that bedbugs were accidentally transported during her move. Try to vacuum your car frequently. If you find a good PCO, you can consult them about the car but I understand it's difficult to treat a car, so the best bet is prevention. Protect and isolate clothing and shoes and bags and vacuum thoroughly. The main thing is to isolate personal belongings and wash and dry clothes per the FAQs.

Yes--we have FAQs on how to deal with clothing and also a travel FAQ on how not to spread bed bugs to others.
