Can I run Packtite on top of a table?
(4 posts)-
I feel like it's been months since I posted here, but it's probably only been a week. And I almost feel normal.
I'll give you a little update. It's now 18 bug and bite free days for me. I had found one bb on my bed 19 days ago and went to war. I had a PCO come a week 1/2 ago. He only found 2 dead bb on my box spring. I haven't found any other signs, besides the bites, the one live bb and 2 dead ones. But I've done the usual things, move my bed, encasement, bagging and vacuuming. I've got the bed legs set in "climbups" and I've caulked the baseboard near my bed (1/4" space). I found 2 larve worms (probably carpet beetle) in some dirt BEHIND the cable wire attached to the wall near the baseboard. UGH! Who would even think to look there!I'm now about to start using my Packtite and I'm a little nervous. I'll be baking books, shoes, papers, framed pictures...etc. I've read EVERYTHING posted on the forum and seen the videos.
I hope some of you can help with some of these questions.
1• I'm planning on using it on top of a wooden kitchen table...not the floor. Is this OK?
2• this is a small apartment. I have the AC on because it's been so hot out. I've only found ONE post that mentions the amount of heat coming from the unit. How hot will the space around it get?
3• I found no mention on running the Thermometer wire out of the unit, along with the power cord, but that's what I assume I need to do.
4• I sent a question to the Packtite site: Do I do ANYTHING with the settings on the 2 dials on the heater in the Packtite. I think one is for heat and one is a fan?
5• Because this "bugged" me I'm including this ...the text in my instruction "booklet" was very out of order (confusing). Anyone else notice this???
6• Here's a bit of nit picking (hey, where did THAT saying come from) I saw one video posted on this site, but I dug around a bit and found the "follow up" video from BBCTV (http://tv.bedbugcentral.com/index.php/2009/07/bbctv-32-update-packtite-heating-unit/) which indicated that the claim for heating a stuffed suitcase was not as trustworthy as a dryer for clothes. But I also read how some people heat the unit up for 2 sessions of 4 hours...and it seems that some people maybe run the unit for MORE than the recommended 4 hours. SO, if I see my temp only gets to 120 at the end of 4 hours, what is suggestion to make sure I maintain that heat for the 1/2 hour min. ?I'm sorry to go on so much about all this, and I want to thank anyone who can take the time to respond.

Sisterfaith,
I answered most in the response to your pm, but I did want to post for question 6- simply run the unit longer, we now have a 6 hour setting on the unit, and as long as you are leaving the marked ventilation areas clear, you can run the unit that long.

I also wanted to add that I find if I put a suitcase in there, to NOT have it stuffed with clothes and things.
I put a small suitcase with some clothes in it the other day, and it took 8 1/2 hours to finally reach 120 degrees. -
thanks again David!
I look forward to using your amazing devise. It will be a HUGE help in getting my life back to normal.I'm posting your response here because I think it may be helpful to others with the same questions.
1. You can use it on the table, shouldn't be a problem
2. it will be warm around the unit, but not excessively hot.
the settings on the 2 dials on the heater in the Packtite—
4. Nope, they are set and ready to go as is and in fact don't do much of anything.5. We just got a new booklet made.
6. I would just run it longer as we have included a 6 hour setting in some newer models.
