Since my husband's illness and death, I have been sleeping on the convertible couch. I mean the couch part. We were sleeping in the bed part, but somehow, everything bad happens at the same time, and the bed broke. So in my bereaved state, I've been sleeping on the couch. The bed, itself, was not infested, as late as May. However, now, I am getting badly bitten on the couch. My plan is to throw out the couch. I saw quite a few bugs including two nymphs on it this morning. (about 7 bugs that I manually killed with tape) The original harborage is not the couch. I plan to clean up an old air mattress and use it temporarily. I am spending most of the night in a leather lounger in my other room, but I dutifully return to be bait so the bugs won't join me on the lounger. My first question is if I throw out the couch, and something turns out to be wrong with the air bed, then if I have nothing to sleep on for a few days except the lounge chair, will the bugs follow me into the next room? The room is very small and I can't have the couch in there with the open air bed. I plan to have somebody come next week and spray. In the meantime should I spray the couch with sterifab? What is sterifab? Will it harm me? I know I sound very confused, but I am overwhelmed by this and my bereavement.

I know I sound panicky. That's because I am. Even in this awful bereaved state I'm getting ready to have a PCO come next week. But I can't take sleeping in my room anymore. The bb census is too high. Normally, I don't see any bbs. They just bite me while I'm sleeping. Now , a few are visible. I know I'm supposed to sleep there to keep them in the room, but I just can't take being a sitting duck anymore. Someone told me I could isolate myself by putting a wet towel at the room's entrance, that that would keep them from feeling my body heat coming from the other room where I am. Does that make sense?

Hey, I am sure someone here can help you

I don't think you should do anything yourself because you said you had the PCO coming in...maybe you should start by washing all your clothes in hot water and drying them for two hours and then bagging them very very well (but make sure to leave yourself with enough clothes to get by during the whole process of this, i made a separate garbage bag that I live out of and wear over and over again)... to be honest I think that all I would do until I spoke to the PCO...you dont want to treat anything yourself because it may make the problem worse...But like I said there are a few very well informed people on here that will give you advice..

I was so dense when it started...:I moved from my bed to the couch assuming "it was leather and they couldn't get in it"...i'm sure they followed me there but I'm never sure of ANYTHING when it comes to these bloodsuckers....i'm having the couch treated anyway...I mean the interior of the couch is cloth so...I moved my infested bed throughout the whole apartment to throw it out...not smart at all..

Mainly, I just wanted to extend MY SUPPORT to you rather than knowledge because in that department I am lacking...I feel horrible that during such a difficult time for you that you must deal with this too...I'm having a hard time and I am not grieving the loss of someone I love...My heart goesout to you and please know you are not alone!!!!

AllAlone74, Thank you so much for your kind posting. Since I wrote that the PCO made two visits including a steaming of the couch, and the bugs seem gone for a while. I'm not going to remove the couch without the exterminator here so he can follow up with treating the "route" in which the couch goes out.
