Bug abdomen segment and black spot identification request
(5 posts)-
I was inspecting a large wooden crate where I keep my records and CDs and which is about a foot from where I sit at my computer and found a few suspicious things that I am hoping to get a hand with IDing.
The first is not my primary concern and is a fragment of a bug I found by an old spider web. It is the right color but there see to be some hairs growing out of it which would seem to indicate that it once was a carpet beetle (which I have)
pic 1The second is a little more worrisome and is a black spot that I found on the crate. Actually there were two, but after trying to smear them I scraped one clean off. This scraped off too, but when I tried to smear it on a peace of paper it made a charcoal-like mark. This looks similar to other fecal traces I have seen so I am just wondering if this is one.
pic 2As always I appreciate people's help. Thanks.

It looks like you uploaded the same picture for the second picture. Can you try uploading the fecal trace picture again? I think you're right about the first one though, does not look like a bed bug.

Hi,
The fragment is 100% not bedbug related.

Whoops, my bad. That's what I get for doing this after a long day. Thanks for confirming my suspicions that the fragment was not BB related.
Here is the actual picture of the black spot.
Spot -
I apologize in advance for bumping my own thread but this spot has been gnawing at my mind for the past couple of days.
Here is the picture again: http://i.imgur.com/600nC.jpg
As I said above there were two of these that I was able to pick off cleanly with a finger nail. However when I dragged them across a piece of paper with some saliva they did leave a charcoal-ish mark.
