(4 posts)-
Hi, I was hoping someone would know if you could break a lease due to bed bug infestation. We just had are apartment fumagated but found out that 3 other suites have been sanitized before. I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The thoought of staying in the apartment any longer makes me sick!

It depends on your local laws...
This link is for renting in MB: http://www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca/en/co/reho/yogureho/fash/fash_003.cfm
This is the CMHC's take on pests: http://www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca/en/co/reho/yogureho/fore/reagma/reagma_005.cfm
Please take note of one comment in the article above: " the landlord is responsible for getting rid of them"... Maybe that is all you need! They suggest that if you landlord is not cooperative to contact your local health department.
Good Luck!

Screw the lease. If they won't let you out of it than just crank your stereo full blast every night. Have an eviction party! Then they will evict you!
Be carefull not to take the bugs with you. -
I live in Edmonton AB and here apparently the bed bugs are not a health risk to break your lease.
I know i have tons and tons and tons of bites and get new ones every day and i had been telling my property manager for 4 months that we were infested and it took calling the health board to come and check for her and the owner of the building to finally come up and spray my apartment and that was on Friday.... since then I've received probably about 10 new bites
I threw out my bed i know it was grossly infected kept our couch just because we have no money to buy a new bed and barely am going to have any money to get an air mattress. ONce we do that though the couch is going..... and then we are getting started on our laundry cause we just don't have the money to wash alllllllllllllllll of our laundry. But my bf asked the owner of our building if we could just break the lease and find somewhere else to live and he kinda got pissed off but said that if it was getting really bad maybe they would move us to a different suit and if we are still infested then we'd talk but right now we are trying to just try spraying it and shes coming back in 30 days to spray again and gave us a can of spray to use as an on contact if we see any
