People are idiots. We have heard people make similar comments here, so I would not doubt they were being genuine.
Thanks for the find, KillerQueen!

All I can say is "WTF!"

Wow!
You don't know this bug until it comes for a visit!!
It is so difficult to explain all the nuances to others. People don't understand the big deal. "Just spray your house, how bad can it be?"
I have lost a neighbor friend over this, because she kinda rolls her eyes over the fact that this could be so bad, and doesn't understand at all!

I suppose if the couch was very very heavily infested they might put up a sign saying "bedbugs with couch attached".

Hi,
I wanted to reply to this one saying so you now know you are a non bite responder following:
....... but I've slept on both these couches in the past week and haven't noticed any bedbugs......
When will people learn bites alone do not equate to bed bugs, look for the physical signs and avoid being bitten in the first place.

Well, maybe the poster slept on the couches while they were still on the sidewalk?:)

DavidYup-- that was one of my points in my response.
And, of course, even if this person IS a bite responder, they might not have reacted *yet*.

I think its about time that Craig's list put an automatic addition to any post that includes the words bed bugs to help get the important message out there.
Its a simple solution to help avoid simple people infecting others.

Unfortunately, Craigslist is probably too worried that people will curtail Craigslist selling and sharing due to bed bugs.
After all, when certain folks have told us they post warning messages gently pointing Craigslisters to bed bug information, the posts are apparently deleted by admin.

There is a system on craigslist where anyone is allowed to flag a post for being in the wrong category. I think if a certain number of users (say 2 or more) flag a post, the post automatically disappears. So if someone posts a "warning, used furniture may have bedbugs" post in the furniture for sale section, it will probably be flagged and deleted by people who don't want to read anything but a post for a piece of used furniture.
I think if a bedbug warning were posted in "rants and raves" it would most likely not be deleted. But of course the people who are shopping for used furniture are not going to be reading rants and raves so it defeats the purpose of posting it in the first place.

Why would craigslist delete posts in the for sale or free categories that mention bbs? They don't make money from the listings do they?? I always thought it was free/shared site or am I naive...
The bottom line is that there are probably far too many people who just don't care if an item has bbs or may have bbs. They may just need a couch, mattress, whatever so badly that the bbs just not a deterrent.
I recall a story on some other site (in New York I think) a couple had a bb infestation and had put a lot of their stuff on the kerb for the garbage collection, labelling it ALL with warnings, including a big picture of a bedbug stuck to their mattress, for those who didn't speak English I guess. This woman saw a man hauling the mattress off and yelled that it had bbs, pointing to the 'picture', he shrugged and carried on with the mattress. I felt sorry for that man's neighbours.
Happens far too often...
