I woke up this am and didn't notice any bites on my body. After returning from the gym and showering I noticed a couple of red marks on my leg and upper chest area. Minutes later I looked in the mirror and saw a trail of bites from my left hip all the way up by side, back, chest and shoulder. I have some on my right side but they are predominately on the left.

I went to 2 doctors late this afternoon: my general first who then sent me to a dermatologist. The derm doc immediately said: bed bugs. They did blood work and took a biopsy which will take a few days and advised in the meantime to call in a bed bug specialist. It was too late to call when I returned home so I looked at my mattress to see what was up.

What I found were a few skeletal shells (thin, oval, white), 2 small, live, light brown inchworms, and 1 small, dead beetle. My father brought back an old space heater from his house in rural NJ a couple years back. When I opened the bag there were the same little worms and beetles that I found in my bed just now. Could they be responsible for my 40 or so odd very angry looking bites?

    Thanks!

I've had a similar situation that's been going on for over a month now. My dermatologist also diagnosed my bites as bed bug bites, but I have yet to find evidence for weeks now. I suspect that I'm experiencing some kind of allergy - possibly carpet beetles or mold. The bites have decreased almost completely now, after I steam-cleaned carpets, bought HEPA vacuum, HEPA air purifier, thoroughly washed all bedding and clothing. I'm going to see an Allergist on Monday - I hope to find some sort of answer because it's been agonizing not knowing what caused my "bites". Do a search on here for carpet beetles because that is a common cause for bite-like reactions.

My point is....don't necessarily take the dermatologist word for it. Unless you find hard evidence of bed bugs, you should not treat for them. If you post pics of the cast skins - there are people on here that could possibly identify them for you. I purchased a Bed Bug Beacon in an attempt to trap bed bugs, but after a few weeks....still nothing was in the trap. Which is good news, but it still doesn't give me answers.

I hope you get answers soon because I can tell you first hand, that figuring out the "mystery" is no fun!
