Bins: How should I proceed?(1 post)
About a year ago, I ran all of my books, media, and electronics through a packtite for storage in the ziploc big bags that were then placed in storage bins (cleaned out with alcohol and sealed tight with strapping tape (no holes allowing entrance of bugs)). I had the bins shuffled around a bit, but the tape still seems solid/secure.
(A little background: I found a bed bug at my old place in brooklyn. The PCO said he couldn't find evidence of bbs, but said there was a bad mite infestation. He sprayed the bed, floor, and furniture with cedarcide. None of the furniture came with me, and I've been free of infestation, thus far.)
Now, it has been a year. I've moved to another city. I'd like to get my things out of the bins and run them through the packtite, but I am wondering how I should proceed.
I don't want to open the bins in my new place (you know, just in case). Should I do the following: take the bins behind my house (there is a far alley that is at least 50 feet away), transfer the contents to new ziploc big bags (that is, if the bags opened or tore open), and then run them through the packtite again? For precaution's sake, I'm considering running everything through the packtite just to be doubly sure.
Sorry for all the information here, I just want to make sure that I don't bring anything into the house.
Let me know if this sounds reasonable or if it appears overkill.
