Experts, please weigh in: What in your opinion is generally the best way to treat an entire attached apartment building?

Of the 6 units in mine, 4 of them (one on every floor) have had BBs consistently throughout the past year. 2 of those 4 have been badly infested--they've been treated, but the bugs keep coming, moving from apt to apt. Unfortunately, I live with neighbors who don't mind living in squalor and bugs, so my partner and I are the only ones complaining and fighting off the infestation. The LL is very lax about it.

As I consider pursuing legal action, I want to be able to point to some reliable treatment the LL should be taking.

    Vikane?
    Heat?
Having every unit sprayed and dusted by a PCO in certain weekly intervals?
    Or ________?

    Hi,

Its not as simple as one solution fits all.

The situation you have described is a difficult one because the reality is that pest control can deal with infestations but only the occupants can stop bringing them back into the property. It may be that one neighbour brings them in and they spread to others or that you all get exposed to a similar source to varying degrees.

What your LL should be doing is to take control of the issue and make sure that everyone is educated, inspected, treated as required and checked up on till the issue is completely resolved.

Its a sad reality that organising and educating is much harder work that continually band aiding a problem which is why things are rarely handly correctly the first time around.

If you put together information for your LL they should quickly realise that dealing with the matter correctly is a lot more cost effective than repeat failed treatments and legal action (which is really a very last resort).

    Hope that helps.

it also depends on tenant cooperation. It sounds like your neighbors might not adequitly prepare thus vikane or heat might be a more viable option
