What is the best Pesticide spray or what is the best ingredient to look for within a Pesticide spray ? Which bed bugs will avoid crossing or going near and will just turn around and head back or go some where else ?

You might want to pose that question to Sean on the BedBugResource.com site.

If you look at the research conducted at U of Kentucky... The bed bugs avoided some of the areas that were treated with a product unless there were feces present... which appeared to modify the bed bugs behavior... They were observed resting on treated areas, if feces were present.

If you are looking for a product that will work as a repellent... I think you will be disappointed... A hungry bed bug will often walk across a chemical band to get a blood meal... PCOs use this fact to plan their treatment strategy when they apply chemicals.

You could try the cedar oil products which are labeled for bed bugs... it works for mosquitoes, but I doubt it would deter a hungry bed bug for very long.

Doug, are you implying creating a big circle of harsh chemicals on the floor with feces in the center might (hypothetically) be an productive plan in creating a simple chemical trap? :)

I'm fine with my chemical bands and sprayed furniture the PCO did, but I'm just thinking here.

Maybe a gluetrap with add feces on it? :p

I know they've started testing sprays/powders with the ALARM pheromone, but has anyone determined if there is a LOVE or RUSH OVER HERE pheromone yet? :)

I wish it was that simple.

I expect David is one of the top experts on attractants at this point. He has been doing a lot of research regarding the development of effective monitoring devices.

While the presence of feces was the variable condition in the U of K study, I think all of the research that I have seen suggests that it is much more complex. Why do bed bugs naturally tend to form groups is a subject that may lead us to a breakthrough in control.

I wish feces on glue trap would function as an effective control device... We still need to perform more basic research (which is not currently funded) on many open questions according to the researchers that attended the EPA Summit.

What I mean is if random bugs are coming from an outside hall ?
I was informed to use pyrethroid based spray I want to use something strong, not sure a cedar oil product will be good for that.

Pyrethrin. They will go to great lengths to avoid crossing it. I think they have to be really, really desperate to cross.

Oh really, thank you for that information. You know this from some experience about this chemical ? I wonder if I can find it in stores. Any other suggestions welcome, but Pyrethrin seems to be tops thus far.
