Bedbugs gone without needing a PCO?

Has anyone ever gotten through an infestation without contacting a professional? Just curious!

For self-treatment to work the amount of bed bugs would have to be controlled and be a very small number and you would have to not be getting bites, because bites could mean the female is able to lay her eggs after a blood meal, that from my knowledge is when you could self-treat in probably under (3) weeks. From small to large either way you will learn a lot and never be even the remote careless, but having guests over and not knowing if they have it can increase your chances of bed bugs, so I suggest ask your friends and if they can explain to you how bed bugs are and how they spread, yet still tell you they don't have them then I would relax that would be someone like me as a friend but if they seem confused or uneducated or tell you "don't worry" then worry.

Hi buggk, I got through an infestation without contacting a professional.
I have been bug -free for one year now, living in the same apartment. You can read how I got rid of the bedbugs in my Success Story thread "Four Month Bite Free - Steps Taken". I wrote the posting when I was four months bite free. By the grace of God, I have stayed bite free.
I wish you success.

I don't think you need to worry so much about your friends bringing bed bugs over (@dragonflight) and am hoping fingers crossed I'll be able, through thorough vacuuming and inspection of all potential harbourages, to deal myself with the few I got from a piece of furniture I took in briefly.
No bites for three days so far, and finding a few (3) dead bugs in DE, but of course I worry that there are female adults who laid eggs, so the battle continues. The clothes I use are bagged, I have caulked and laid DE around the bedposts that are the sole access to me, i.e. food source. No signs of bed bugs on mattress, some excrement on wooden bedframe but have caulked/inspected there thoroughly too. Used to get fecal stains on sheets but also desperately hoping that's over: putting fresh sheets on tonight and will report back.
(There's no way of telling whether those I've caught are m or f is there?)

Self treatment is working for me. Not saying it will work for everyone, but after a year of pco's....self treatment is the only thing that has worked.
Good luck with your self treatment!

It can be done but is difficult to self-treat, and requires doing your homework. One must take safety precautions and be cautious about their method to avoid repelling bed bugs (which actually exacerbates your bed bug problem).
Some DIY methods which work well if done safely and correctly include diatomaceous earth and dry vapor steam. We have FAQs on both with suggestions and leads to further information.
I would be cautious against jumping on board with a treatment method someone has suggested here. In Jason1's case, he has been treating for several weeks, still has bed bugs (so it is too soon to declare his methods a success). Many pesticide experts have also cautioned against his frequency of treatment and the possible repellency which may ensue.

It depends also where you live and whether the neighbours also have them, etc. If you lived in a place where you can literally look everywhere, then you can do that and, I think, physically find all of their harbourages and all of them. In theory. But I'd imagine it's very hard actually to look everywhere. Still, you could start with the obvious places—bed, mattress, box spring, wooden furniture near bed, etc., and then if you manage to catch them all and kill them all then that's it done. And wash/launder all yr clothes and live out of bags for a while, etc.

If you have stupid neighbors who says "everyone has them" as I had mentioned to me by those who had them and still live there they will continue cause has said by some moron "everyone does have them" I'll never forget that, maybe it should be a t-shirt "Bed Bugs, because everyone does have them !" and I can't wait until I can buy a house soon.

I self treated and am BB free ,The BB won a few rounds but I won in the end , dont give up , They are bugs that need your blood and you can use that against them ,

Or inject yourself with the blood that Mr.Freeze has guaranteed the bed bugs will wonder "WTF, just three days ago, there was a blood meal now I don't see nothing with my extruded eyes, Bob (referring to another bed bug) do you see a meal ?, "nope, can't explain what is going on Jim"

I've had good luck self-treating -- just posted under "5 weeks without bites".
