Bed bugs or not? Baffled!
(6 posts)-
Okay bed bug experts, I have a confusing situation going on.
At my apartment, we have never had a bed bug problem. None of us have ever had bites, no itchin', no signs on my white-as-snow IKEA mattress of any invaders.... BUT! Lately I've been coming home to find dead bugs on our hardwood floor in the bedroom. Only dead, never alive. We've lived here for a year with no bugs (no pets, either.) There are usually only two or three bugs that I've found, randomly on the floor. Usually about 2 or 3 feet from the bed.
At first glimpse, I thought they were bed bugs. But I'm not so sure. They are all dark, brownish-black. No color variation. They are oval in shape, no distinctive head or angular bedbug type body. Just oval. But they seem to have six legs and antennae. They are small guys - the biggest one was only about 4mm long. And they're always dead. I'm so baffled.
My camera sucks but I drew a perfect likeness of this mysterious insect:
just like this, except tiny. Can someone shed any light on this?? I am trying not to worry about it, and we're moving Sept. 1st.... But I'd like to prevent any bedbug issues if possible. Thanks!!

Your pic looks like a cigarette beetle

I agree...

They are darker than the bug in that picture, for sure. And they don't have that distinct separate head like the bedbug does. They sort of look like smaller versions of pillbugs or potato bugs, but they don't have as many legs and they're darker.

Did you google images of cigarette beetles?
