Bed bugs in your Christmas toys?
(4 posts)-
hmmmmmmm, I am not sure if I agree with the jumping on the BB bandwagon for PR and headlines on this one.
Don't get me wrong the working conditions are clearly horrendous and the companies involved served to be shamed into improving them but trying to scar people into taking up the cause on the back of bed bugs lost the moral fight for me.
I am all for education but it does need to be fact based and to be frank apart from a few comments I see no evidence of bed bugs. As the article states they are also no screens on the window some mosquitoes could actually be the main biting pest in this case.
Thankfully I have no interest in Disney and the only Hasbro products I am interested in are antique versions of the Bed Bug game for which I am happy to play the eBay gamble. I think the risk of getting BB's by purchasing a second hand game on eBay is worth the risk for the potential story alone.

hi david,
I am skeptical too, and am not taking a position on this claim (except the claims made about the conditions IN the sweatshop dorms!)
I encourage you or others to respond on the blog comments, though, since more people read those articles than come to the forums and they would benefit from your input.

I was able to afford to buy the kiddies a few Christmas gifts this year (two of them being Disney mind you!) and my hubby thought I was nuts when I took the big wheel out of the box, put the peaces in a XXL Ziplock before storing in the attic. It will be given all put together with a bow on it. I did this with another two large (Disney) gifts for my girls as well.
Being that I have twins, I buy the "big box" of diapers and wipes weekly. Ever since our infestation, come rain or snow, I always unpack the diapers and wipes outside the house before bring them into the house, leaving the boxes outside for a week for garbage day. (we need to keep our garbage cans inside, in the garage due to a bear issue here)
People would think I'm nuts doing this. It probably doesn't help much, but make me feel that I'm doing what I can. In order to give my children some sort of normal life, especially on a very tight budget, I'm basically a sitting duck, maybe for the inevitable.
This article is way to disturbing on many levels for me to even comment on it. I can just hope that someone on some government level is reading this and actually doing something about what's going on here. (not just about the article but even moreso on the much bigger picture.)
