Bed bugs from friend?(1 post)
I'm not sure if I should be worried or what I should be doing in regards to all this but here goes:
My daughter just started playing with a little girl down the street last week. She's been to her house and the little girl has come here. On Wednesday my little girl woke up with a row of 7 red spots down the side of her face (from her eyebrow to her lips about 5-6 inches) and all I could think of was bedbugs. Although her class had just spent the entire day Tuesday at a local field park and nature hike. I found 3 more later in the day (1 on the chin, 2 on her neck -opposite of her face). They never itched her and they are smaller than a pencil eraser. 3 days later they are still there but have faded quite a bit.
I've been trying to stay calm and collect information (I don't know this family very well and I will not have the nerve to just ask). They have 2 cats so I don't know if it could be fleas either. I did see the neighbor girls arms today and one whole back of her arm is covered in bumps (which she was itching). I would say she at least had 15-20. The other arm had about 5 old ones (but you could tell they had been scratched at one point). She's outside a lot so I don't know if it could be mosquitos/other bugs. We live in a rural city.
Here's my questions:
What do I do if she possibly brought a bug into my house , which then bit my daughter? I am thinking about getting the bed bug inceptor things since hubby travels it wouldn't be a bad idea. Should I wait till we have proof before doing anything (not using the possible bites as proof). The day the bites showed I washed and dried all bedding in the house.
Am I over reacting if I don't want her in the house or my little girl at her house? I feel so awful but I know that I have to do what is right for my family but what that is I don't know right now.
Would it be okay for the girls to play in the yard together? Or if we went to the park? Would the bugs be able to get to our house from there? My only qualm about this is the little girl hugs my daughter each time they see each other
I'm a high anxiety person by nature so my mind immediatly goes to the worst case scenario. I don't know what the chances are or anything. I do believe we have some larder beetles in the house which I know the larve can cause allergic reactions.
