The NY Times real estate feature known as "The Hunt" profiles NYers and their search for the ideal - or at least satisfactory - apartment. Usually, there's a happy ending with the profiled occupants nestled in an adorable neighborhood with one or two standout amenities that make the outrageous rent worthwhile. This week ... "Can It Get Any Worse" ... not so much. The article blurb says this week's apartment has its residents "coping with noise and more." Guess what they mean by "more."

Yup, after five moves over two and a half years, this poor couple landed in an apartment with bed bugs. It's interesting how the article delivers the news. Just "bedbugs" - one word at the end in its own paragraph. No explanation necessary. An indicator that more and more of the paper's readership knows what they are and the horrible impact they have.
