My family is freaking out over this bed bug epidemic.

We found two dead bedbugs near the bed of a hotel room and slept in the car last week. We aren't sure if we did everything we could to eliminate the risk of contamination.

Two months ago we moved to a home in CA from our apt in NYC. We found out the whole building is contaminated with bed bugs from a friend who still lives there.

We have not found any bed bugs, but I'm having nightmares about them. I find myself reading about them several hours a day. I feel helpless and I don't even have any indication of an infestation.

How can I live my life not afraid to go to hotels, visit restaraunts, trains, planes, automobiles, movie theaters etc. I feel like they are crawling all over me and that they are everywhere.

We even thought about buying an RV that we could use instead of hotels. What can I do about this paranoia so I can go about my life and be happy?

You are your own obstacle, resolve it or seek professional help, but don't let it govern your life or the lives of those around you. Good luck.

I'm not a mental health expert, but I have been dealing with an anxiety disorder (OCD) for many years, and it sounds like you are experiencing a major anxiety episode, brought on by the idea that you may have been exposed to bed bugs and perhaps the stress of moving. The best type of therapist to try to find is one that practices cognitive-behavioral therapy.

Bed bugs are scary and there are no guarantees you won't bring them home one day. But this is no way for you and your family to live. Please get some help.
