I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good bed bug dog in NYC. Also what kind of price am i looking to pay for one? Do they charge per room or do they do the whole house for you?

    Thanks for your help!!!

A few months ago, KillerQueen recommended Inspector K9... and he runs cynical about the quality of BB dogs in the field overall. (He's a PCO in NYC, so he's been asked in after a number of dog teams.) See:
    http://bedbugger.com/forum/topic/please-recommend-a-good-bed-bug-doghandler-team-in-nj
Inspector K9 only does searches, they do not treat. Dog teams from PCOs will frequently give you a discount on the subsequent treatment, so they may be cheaper, but there is the issue of false positives when results are not checked manually. Generally, for a single residence the price is 'to show up,' or at least for what can be done in an hour or so, since much of their time is likely to be spent commuting, but by all means ask when you call.

Many PCOs will do a free initial manual inspection (no dog), so if it's a money issue, look up NYC PCO recommendations on the forum and call to see if one can be arranged. Dogs may be more sensitive to very small infestations, but a lot of times a guy with a flashlight and screwdriver will find them just fine.

Please do this in the public forum so that it may be discussed among all here....

It's possible jordan is unbiased, but frankly, I would be wary of anyone only willing to share suggestions in PMs.

Some people "recommend" themselves or companies they have a stake in this way.

For the record I have 0 faith in K9 inspections .. and would trust that my wife with 0 field experience could do a better inspection just telling her what to look for.

I say this because my name was mentioned above.

I'm sorry if my post ended up being misleading about that. I just dug out the old post because it is pretty uncommon to have a dog handler actually physically recheck their results themselves, and I was happy to have found a referral that mentioned that they were even trying to.

And while we're on the subject, BB_Hell, I should mention that a fairly large number of people on this board in the NYC area seem to go with KillerQueen for services, and I have yet to see anybody report back that they just could not get rid of their bugs. (which is pretty amazing -- we're not a stoic lot when it comes to The Bug. If there are setbacks, I Expect To Hear About It, frequently in a post originating at 4:30 am.)
