My husband and I have had bed bugs for 3 months now. When we first got them we had tons of large bump bites that itched terribly but now when we get bitten the bumps are smaller and sometimes only itch for half a day. Does anyone know what this means? Or, has anyone had the same thing happen?

    Hi,

As you can see in the linked article below bites can be very variable and not really the best thing to go by.

    http://bedbugger.com/forum/topic/bite-primer-information-on-bites-and-reactions

Although they can be a sign of activity monitoring for faecal traces and other signs of the infestation will give you a better indication if you still have activity.

    Hope that helps.

bugbite: I am having the exact same experience at the moment. Had BB bites for 2 months, then none for a week. Now bites again but much smaller and in smaller groupings. Will read David's post & stay in touch.

    good luck

Thank you David, your article did help. We have never seen an actual bed bug or fecal matter, but our dermatologist ruled out other types of bugs/rashes etc. We've had pest control treatments so far by a company with no bed bug experience. Are you familiar with a good company in southern calif. with bed bug experience? We are looking into one right now that has dogs, and uses heat treatment as well as pesticide treatment.

Must be an amazing dermatologist because having inspected about 22,000 people with bed bugs and bed bug like symptoms I can tell you bites are not an accurate diagnostic of anything other than the fact that there is something causing a problem.

The only exceptions to this are scabies and sometimes fleas which may have a red dot in the centre of the raised bite.

I think the suggest of looking for an experienced bed bug team who will actually physically identify and confirm the problem before treating is absolutely essential. I have seen too many cases where the issue is actually an environmental sensitivity causing a "bite like" response so adding extra chemical products into the environment does not actually help the matter in the slightest.

I would even go as far as to say any PCO who gets caught more than 2 times treating for bed bugs when non are present should be forced to re apply for a license. I saw a lot of this a few years back and clocked up a few thousand miles running around the UK telling people its not bed bugs, if you get 20 bites per day and I cant find any signs in your home I am 1000% sure its not bed bugs, many times it turned out to be either an allergic reaction or carpet beetle sensitivity.

Not all pest controllers were created equally.
