Bed Bug Battle - HOW I WON!
(5 posts)-
Here is a site I created to help other people get rid of their bed bugs. I took a lot of steps, but it was worth it in the end. http://bedbugsbegone.wordpress.com/

OK, I took a few moments to review this posting and the site it links to therein.
WHile I'm pleased that you've beaten the bugs and your willingness to share your expereience & enthusiasm for the benefit of others, there are some flaws present that warrant comment:
> Firstly, not everyone can afford to call and pay for a pest professional which is why many seek assistance from this site and others. And, as your "recipe for success" is based upon the use of a professional the majority of bed bug victims seeking assistance will not benefit.
> On hiring a professional: There are many who would tell you that you were lucky to have found a decent professional to address your bed bug problem. Good for you ! However, these postings are froth with those who have had a lesser experience. At this point in time here is no "universal competency" that exists for bed bug control amongst professionals across the county, the state or the country. And, while this may seem critical to some, it is my experience, observation and opinion. If this were not true, we wouldn't need websites such as this because one call to "any" pco would solve the problem but this just ain't happening ! Bed bug victims need to educate themselves and learn what questions to ask rather than simply placing blind trust/faith in a pest pro to do the right job.
> Misinformation: There are items of misinformation that need correcting. As an example, you represent that store bought insecticides "don't work" and should not be used. This is NOT true. In fact, many retail products contain the same activie ingredients that the pros use and some are the same formulations marketed under different brand names and private labels. WIth insecticide products it is much more important how a product is used then which product is used.
> Messege to those forced into the DIY Mode: Remain hopeful for your success because it IS possible if you take the right steps even though you may not be able to afford a professional.
> Camphor? Vicks? Seriously. I'm not even going to comment on this one.
Again, while I admire your intentions to help others I think you need to consult with those who have extensive bed bug experience prior to presnting advisory information because having a sample size of one positive experience does not a bed bug expert make.
I'm sorry to rain on the parade here however, my concern is that there are those who are in desperate need of hope and assistance that may be misled by your post and to those such folks I owe my responsibilities !
Regretfully, paul b.

Yes, more enthusiasm than accuracy.
Please don't take it the wrong way but its better sometimes to find ways to spread the word of places that are accurate than to try and reinvent the wheel when it's as close to perfect as possible.
It seems to be a pattern in the bedbug world that people rush to recreate rather than be stop and originate.
If you want to trade time I will offer you 3 hours of fact correcting for 3 hours of social media promotion of this and 1 other public information site.

If it makes anyone feel better about DIY'ing it and success, my PCO told me she had BB's and DIY'ed with DE, hepo vac, alcohol, etc and beat them herself. She said it took a good few months, but it worked. She had quite an experience, it propelled her to start her own business. She does the heat/canine business now.
