Bed Bug & Beyond (Coming to Chicago!!!)
(4 posts)-
I've been pulling my hair out trying to find someone that can use Vikane to fumigate an entire apartment loaded into a moving truck. I just got off the phone with the CEO/President of Bed Bugs & Beyone out of Florida. He gave me a tentative timeframe of around 2 weeks in the Indianapolis area and 3 to 4 weeks in the Chicago area. They contract out it seems and the license and operator should be ready for our area soon. I told him that Chicago will be a lucrative market since everyone around here is clueless about how bad these little [expletive deleted] bugs are. The cost isn't cheap. A 26' truck is around $1500. Cheaper for a smaller truck. I have no quotes on those however.
Rose Pest Control just called me up now. .. they can do the same. You take a truck to a 'safe' area and they can do the work there. If it isn't a safe area they have to use guards. So there are a few options to get fumigated.
Anderson does it but uses Phostoxin.. and electronics can't be treated.

McCloud Pest Control just called as well.. They provide Vikane treatments as well. You can drive to their facility in Alsip for treament. The cost should be under $500.

What do you mean by the "entire apartment loaded onto a moving truck"? Do you mean you have loaded all the furnitures onto a moving truck, and want to treat them along with the truck?
I am also considering of moving out of an infested apartment. And, want to know is there any way to treat my furnitures.

do a search of Vikane treatment on these blogs. you can actually load all your belongings onto a moving truck, a POD or take them to a chamber where your contents can be fumigated. you must NOT overstuff the moving truck because they need air to circulate between your belongings. you CANNOT use sealed plastic because the fumes don't penetrate. they told me i could use plastic bins with no lids but how would you stack those. i hear cardboard boxes are fine.. the gas penetrates wood and cardboard. i would cut hole into them just in case. many people are using banana boxes because they have holes aleady. you can stack these as well. milk crates would be fine i assume.
what i like is that you can treat your mattress/box, furniture, most electronics, clothes at one time. you CANNOT do food stuff except those in glass or cans. NO makeup that you apply to your skin either. The fumes have no killing effect AFTER the process (no residual), you're stuff will be clean of bed bugs if done correct. the problem is the NEW place or introducing anything that might have a straggler.. i plan on putting everything i own in the truck and having clean clothes after the treatment in order not to cross contaminate. it's the best way to be sure of making sure your belongings aren't infected with these [expletive deleted].
i could not find anyone that did this in Chicago last week... things have changed however. Bed Bugs & Beyond by months end the CEO says. McCloud uses Vikane in Alsip, some companies are using ProFume which is great too.
To me it's silly to throw out your stuff unless you just feel it's skanky after being violated by these satan bugs. my new bed feels skanky but i'm keeping it.. great memories! may throw out my new couch since it's a sleeper.. and feels skanky now after all the chemical treatment.
good luck and make sure the company you use knows what to do... you must keep the gas at 3X the rate used for termites.. most places don't give much of a guarantee because they just don't know if the new place is infected...or that you might reinfect by stupid actions. Bed Bugs & Beyond do offer a great 4 month guarantee i think and will retreat your stuff if you find bugs. you just have to get it to them i think. the hard part is making sure the new place is clean.. but then in any units you don't know the history nor do you know if the pervert next door is harboring them and they may come right in.. kinda scary about the uncertainty. you can do a bed bug registry search of any new place.. but these are places that only brave people report.. 90% of infected apartments are not reported.. please report yours to save someone heartbreak.
