I have just spent the last 2 weeks going crazy, it got so bad my Doctor had to put me on Adivan.
On 9/10, I had a friend visiting and we for some retarded reason began discussing BB. Anyway we decided to check out our beds----well we found some bugs. I have to be honest, I felt a cardiac arrest coming on----we bagged all of them, about 20 in total, 3 alive, the rest DOA. The next day after NO SLEEP ALL NIGHT, I called Pest control, and he viewed the bag, and said "these are not BB" of course he wasn't sure what they were so he took a LIVE one to investigate. So I called another PC, a very popular one here in California. He said without hesitation"NO these are not bedbugs" and he even laid on one of the box springs to check. He also took a live bug, however he told me they were BOOK LICE, which actually made sense, since I am a book collector & seller.....and I always set the books on BOTH beds. Anyway still not satisfied(GOD I HATE BUGS!!!!!!!) I cleaned, and cleaned & cleaned(my house is already a poster child for home & garden) I did 24 loads of laundry, vaccumned like an insane person.
I cleaned out under each bed, and found a cloth bag filled with tons of them ALL DEAD, and under my bed empty frames with cheapy cardboard backing, with some ALL DEAD. I did find 2 live ones in a book. I checked the pantry because I keep a huge box of paper bags in there and there were TONS on the floor..all dead. No place else, checked the den, living room chairs, couches, closets etc. I zip locked everything in the pantry, all the linens and everything in most closets. I am mentally & physically exhausted. Still not comfortable...I took the entire bag of bugs to the California state Agriculture, where they have bug specialist. I got the results 5 days later......CARPET BEETLES AND LOTS OF CARPET BEETLE LARVE.
I forgot to add, I had been getting teeny tiny "flea like" bites since Aug 24th, I don't have any fleas, but 4 of my friends were infested so I attributed those bites to them/my car/their homes.
Ever since I found those bugs, my bug bites have increased, I have them from the breast to the pubic line, they itch like crazy--but apple cider vinegar works wonders. To add to all this, my mom has been in a SUBACUTE facility for a year, on June 29th I noticed a rash, I started taking pictures of the progression---2 dermatologists, 7 doctors & a disease specialist finally on Sept 21st(these people are as dumb as sticks!) my mom has scabies, she looks like a reptile, it must be horrible to be brain damaged and not be able to speak or scream from the pain & itch. I am furious with them all because I was in very close contact.....so now we are thinking the bites might be scabies.....and then I read that even though CARPET BEETLES do not bite, their hairs can leave bite marks from allergies....I have VERY sensitive skin, I get rashes, bacteria infections, all kinds of stuff primarily June-October, the hot months. I just ordered BIOGENIC EARTH, for dusting my body and consuming it in juice each day. I also purchased DE for under my bed, I have BB traps on each bed, I bought BB & Scabie spray, I bombed my car, I spent over 150$ on encasements. I do frickin laundry EVERYDAY(my ulitity bill will probably cause me to declare BK)
I have never seen any spots on my bedding or anywhere.
I guess I am just venting because I should trust the Agriculture Dept and TWO PC places, but everyday one or two more bites, how can something so tiny itch so bad, I had to cut my nails way down because I was drawing blood. Would love to hear from fellow "head cases"

    Hi, Buffee,

Have you seen a doctor for your own bites? You could very well have contracted scabies from your mother, even if the bumps don't look exactly like hers. The kind of scabies usually found in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities is called Norwegian Scabies. It's caused by the same mite as ordinary scabies, but it's more severe in elderly, chronically ill and disabled persons than in younger, more healthy people. It's very common in care facilities, to the point where I'm surprised and disturbed that no one in your mom's facility recognized it sooner.

Scabies is highly contagious, and extremely itchy. It takes very brief skin-to-skin contact to spread. I worked with two nurses who got scabies on their lower arms which they traced to holding a crying infant for just a few minutes so their (itchy) mother could pay attention to the dermatologist's instructions on treating the family's scabies.

If you do have scabies, the mites will not just go away; rather they spread under the skin until treated with medication specifically for scabies. Considering your exposure to your mom's scabies, if you have the means to have a doctor look at your bumps, I'd encourage you to do that. If you do have scabies, remember that the itching can persist for several weeks after treatment, which causes many people to think that the medication didn't work.

Yes I went to the doctor on Monday because I thought bedbugs..love my doc but the ONLY dealings she had with bed bugs, was a patient that had bites the size of your fist(eek)
Then on Tuesday I got the call about my mom, and yes there are quite a few of us DISTURBED by it taking almost 3 months to identify scabies, considering I just viewed 11 pictures and gee even I could tell it was scabies. So I went back to my doctor yesterday, and the microscope test really isn't effective. I was with my mom on Sept 14th, when the dermatologist scraped her to check it out under a microscope and it showed NOTHING. It was a biopsy that proved to be Scabies. When I shoed the pictures I had of my mom's rash beginning June 29th, my doctor said the one of my mom's thigh's aug 10th, those teeny bite type marks look very close to what I have now, so its everyones guess and of course I have NO insurance & money is VERY tight. Then again it could be the carpet beetle doing this.
I did get that ELEMITE perscription cream, but I want to do a "patch test" first because I am so sensitive to creams, fabrics, soap, lotions etc...I also am getting that BIOGENIC EARTH on Tuesday, looking forward to trying anything that ia ORGANIC. I hate to use a pesicide, but I may not have a choice my breasts look like I visited the set of TRUE BLOOD(LOL)

    Hey buffee,

I used the elimite and had no reaction (everyone is different though) - but since I didn't have scabies nothing occurred because of it. When you use the cream follow the directions and I think you must wash EVERYTHING you come into contact with to make sure the bugs are all killed off in one fell swoop. (This means if you visit the sofa you will want to somehow clean it too - and anything else like that - to get rid of scabies).

Scabies are actually kinda tough to find - you have to hope that a dye test reveals a burrow on you or finds them because they move about, and a small biopsy may not contain any actual mite in it. Usually, if I read about them correctly months ago, it's their locations that give them away (in between the folds of your skin such as the fingers, wrists, elbows, etc).

Carpet beetles themselves, as you mentioned in your above post, can also cause allergic reactions which can look very similar to an insect bites. I'd follow the doc's orders and use the cream, wash everything again and seeing if it works. It may take a few days for the results to show up - and rarely a single dose of elimite isn't enough (sometimes it takes a second going). Be sure to read the medicine directions before using it!

I did a patch test last night on my inside arm, and it had a slightly burning sensation at first, no smell, seemed ok.
I also tried something else that I read about just for the &*^% of it. I applied very strong smelling perfumed lotion to my legs and arms(where I do not have any bites)
actually this is the first morning I have woke up without being itchy, but its early yet(LOL)
I take Pain Meds before bed(due to nerve damage) so when I go to bed, I am OUT, and since I can only sleep on my back, I never really move.
I will use the cream from the neck down tomorrow night, then start using the BIOGENIC EARTH as a dusting powder all over when it arrives. You can use that in your hair etc.....
You know its interesting that there are all these "tests" for scabies, yet 7 doctors, 2 dermatolgist & a disease special NEVER firgured out it was scabies on my mom until almost 3 months had passed, and they did alot of different testing, although I am comvince, aside from the LAST doct(who finally did a biopsy) the rest of them where all as dumb as a box of rocks! I left a very "nice" message on the first dermatologist's phone, thanking her for NOT knowing it was scabies & exposing all of us to it, because of her "uneducation" As you can tell I am furious! not only about me, but the fact that my mom went thru HELL without the ability to scream, cry or speak, and her skin is horrifying, when people look at the pictures I took of the progession, they cannot believe that ANY facility would have let it get that far. I would love to move her but finding a place that will take a person on a TRAch/VENT is almost impossible. The place shes in is 12,000 per month, nice huh? considering what has happened to her.

well tomorrow is the day to use the DE, put all the encasements on, I already used spray in all the drawers, then tonight before bed, spray the rugs, chairs, sofa--even though those were all clean.
Because we are not sure it is bedbugs, since a leading expert said carpet beetles, and my mom has scabies, also tonight I get the pleasure of coating my body in pesticide cream....just in case...at least it doesn't smell

well 13 hours later, pretty much everything is done. I am very confused now....when we lifted the boxspring & mattress to spray it with ELF(BB/scabies) We only found 5 bugs, all dead, same exact kind I took to the San Diego Agriculture Dept(carpet beetles) we checked with a flashlight every insch inside the boxspring sinece there were some small holes, then we ducked tapes them and put on the encasement(if I had been smart, I would have gotten a piece of thin wood like I did for my moms torn box spring bottom and nail gunned it to the boxspring.
I also put on the mattress encasements.
Last night I used the Elemite cream, no big deal. Today was over 100 degrees and never itched one. I am beginning to think these BITES I have are allergic reaction to the beetles, because I no for sure I do not have BB(we checked everything) and as far as me being exposed to scabies via my mom, I think it would be worse by now.....never the less I do have bug bites..I am anxious to see what the encasements do.
and of course now I am being invaded by flying termites....never saw a bug for 3 years after I did ECOLOGY green termite control, now I am being punished,.everywhere I look are DAMN bugs(LOL)

So here I am another week of worry. NO B/B, and the dead bugs I found while putting the encasements on, where infact carpet beetle larva. I am still getting bites, very small, no pattern, one here, one there. This is freaking me out, my brother is sending me the money to go to the Dermatologist that finally diagnoised my mom with Scabies on Sept 14(after almost 3 months of her being infected) hell I am not a doctor, and I saw tons of pictures of Scabies(advanced) and I could even tell thats what she had.....of course thats after the fact now. I need to know for sure, because my MD, she just isn't aquainted with Scabies, so the Elemite was just a guess because of my mom.
If I have them, the Nursing home my mom is in is GOING TO PAY ME BACK EVERY CENT. They should have known, or at least gave a damn. It began on my mom in late June, and they NEVER did Jack....they accused me of using bad laundry soap(I did her laundry and since I am allergic to EVERYTHING, I always use Non-perfume soaps) It wasn't until I began to raise HELL that they finally sent my mom to a dermatologist in July(almost a month after her rash began) This after 3 of their doctors, kept putting her on antibiotics...blah...blah..blah.......
So basically they probalby infected me.....and God knows how many other people.
I am still hoping that it is an allergic reaction to the carpet beetles. Every June-October for the last 5 years I have had some wierd strange outrageous rash, bacterial;, fungal infection...so I am keeping my fingers crossed, because I am so tired of doing laundry every day. and theire is NO FRICKIN WAY...I am going to bathe in CLOROX....are these people on CRACK????Or burn my clothes etc./....some of the stuff I have read is NUTS!!! I have a winter closet & a summer...since my winter closet has been closed, I assume those clothes are clean, since Scabies can ONLY live 72 hours without a human host, then they croak. I bought some E.L.F. spray & Steri-Fab, so I can spray down furniture, drawers, etc......I know I have to do my bed AGAIN!!!(crap)
The best info I got was from this Forum & from State Hospital Papers..the rest of it is crazy!
