On the way to work this morning, I pass a long vacant storefront that's buzzing with activities. Space being fitted out for a movie. At least 2 dozen people working. Equipment. Lights. Props. PADDING. DROP CLOTHES. Oh, I've heard "through the grapevine" that the building has a BB situation. How many of the people working there as I speak know? How about the next users of the rented props? How about the owners/tenants of the next space where the pads and drop clothes will be laid? How about the purchasers of new items in cardboard boxes from the store that will eventually open in this space?

Good observations. In the recent year, I've begun to understand the potential impact of bedbugs to society in general, and I can easily remember innocence where I would have never considered the implications of the kind of activities you describe above.

I think bedbugs are going to an increasing workplace Health & Safety issue. I recently read a posting on the bedbug registry where a tenant reported that their building managment was doing pre-inspection and treatment of bedbugs in units prior to doing their kitchen renovations to protect the kitchen renovation workers from exposure. (It's public housing, so I assume the workers are unionized.)

And there are going to be insurance liability issues. I know it's supposed to be nearly impossible to prove the source of an infestation, but if I rented my premises to a movie shot, and ended up with bedbugs, and then found out that they used the same drop clothes that are from the previous shoot at an infested premise, you see where this goes...

But, how to get out the message that processes and procedures need to change?

Outrageous!! I personally think the people at the top who are in charge of health and safety should be shot!! Ooh by the way did you even think to stop an say something or maybe print up some flyers and pass A few out!! Education is the key!! I wish I would have been told that these things were even real!! So sleep tight don’t let the BB bite!!
