Bag or New Bagless Vacuum Cleaners?
(5 posts)-
Which type of vacuum cleaner is better for bb control? Or are they equally effective? I am about to buy a new vacuum cleaner and need to know.

i personally think that a canister vacuum (the kind that rolls around on wheels with a LONG hose and a small head) is the best. that way you can get the vacuum head into small spaces and under beds. the stand up vacuums can be more difficult to work with in small spaces, and often do not fit under furniture.
i also use one with a bag. mine is a kenmore (grey, model 116 i think). it has a hepa filter and hepa vacuum bags, which are good for vacuuming up DE. i can just seal the bag up in the garbage and throw it out everytime i use it, which is much easier (for me personally) then cleaning out a canister by hand. plus then the DE is less likely to become airborne.
i don't have a head with a beater (don't need one for hardwood) but if you have carpet you can buy the same vacuum with a different vacuum head to suit your purpose.

Equally effective as long as they suck (excuse the pun).
I would however say that bagless are easier to empty and decon after but the most cost effective solution is a tight or stocking popped into the nozzle so that anything you collect ends up caught in a small bag that is easily disposed of.
I bought a new 16 cyclone bagless the other day and was extremely impressed, the power and suction was a given but the design and ability to store the tools on board and pack up in a small transport crate between rooms was essential given the environment we were in. Its a UK company called Dyson, they are not cheap in the UK but given the workload I put them through they are extremely reliable, I even have one that is a few years old which is ever the case when I go for the $20 option.
The specification can be seen here:

I would also point out that I have no dealings with Dyson other than being a happy customer of many years.
