Hi, I'm kinda desperate, I'm a single mum of two children aged 9 and 11--the 9 year old has autism and we have bedbugs.
I phoned the local council to come and exterminate, which they did for a non returnable fee, after the first visit my children slept in their room---until they saw more bugs when they started getting hysterical and slept downstairs (the council said we should sleep in the bedrooms as bait but I couldn't put them through that) I remained in my room and continued to get bitten every night, the council came out for a second visit and again sprayed and once again my children returned to their room, until once again they saw bugs when they returned downstairs extremely distressed.
I bought some spray privatly today from a company that offers a 30 day money back guarantee and sprayed the rooms this morning but tonight, dispite going to their room within 5 mins they were back downstairs ---I explained it would take a little while but since I'd sprayed everywhere and put double sided tape round their beds they should be safe---this was ok for the 11 year old who agreed to give it another try, the autistic 9 year old though is absoultly terrified, he's currently upstairs trying hard not to cry and not to think about them but he is really scared and I don't know how to deal with him, trust has always been an issue with him anyway (part of his condition) but he has always said I'm the only person he can trust---and now I've put him back in the bedroom with bedbugs that will bite him

This sounds like more than a bed bug problem. Are you sons terrified of all insects? Maybe explain that bedbugs are basically mosquitoes without wings. Have you tried isolating their beds as described in the FAQ? What pesticides have you been using?

Hi Newbite, yeah I have to admit most insects do terrify them.
I have isolated their beds and taken all precautions I can think of but there is no reasoning with the autistic one, he did have a very sever reaction to the bites before I realised what they were and in his mind bed bugs bite so bed bugs in room means he will get bitten---everything is black and white with him.
He's sleeping now though, I can't remember the name of the pestercides, silly I know but I just thought once it was done it would be done, however the one I put down today I just checked the website and it takes 48 hours for it to be totally effective, I'm just hoping he doesn't get bitten tonight or I don't know how I'll get him to bed tomorrow

I got some good news, yesterday was 48 hours since I used the bed bug stuff that I bought privatly online and last night was the first in months that none of us got bitten, I have to admit I haven't seen any for a couple of days either---well just one in the bathroom but I didn't spray in there very much I concentrated on the bedrooms and just gave the rest of the house a quick once over
I am so hoping last night was the start of a new beginning without the bugs--it got to the stage where I went into my bedroom before having a bath and talking to the bugs--y'know the kind of stuff, ''dinner'll be ready soon''---have to laugh at it else I'll end up crying
