    Hi,

If you start a new thread with the question I will look at it and will comment if I have anything to add. I prefer to communicate on the forum rather than via PM or private message unless I specifically ask someone to email me because I need more data such as images or attachments.

That way you get input from a variety of people and not just me and it remains in the open records where others can search, read and find the answers.

I tend to comment more if there is data and information rather than emotion and stress (I am sure you all appreciate I get enough stress transfer from my clients and I am not the best shoulder to cry one because I will have almost certainly already seen someone survive a situation much worse than you are encountering (sorry of that sounds cold but its me)).

Also try to be as clear as you can, I will read long text as long as it is to the point.

My only last request is don't call me Dave.

    David

And his last name, for any newbites, is not actually Bedbugscouk, but Cain.

Though that would be fun to say!

My last name, of course, is "Onme.". Or that's what Facebook thinks, anyway.

    Say it's not so!

Next you will be telling me there is no Mr Obuggy or Mr Bugologist.

    Oh hell yes.

    From Merriam-Webster

    kook noun:

one whose ideas or actions are eccentric, fantastic, or insane: screwball

Since I was born in the deep South, I'm delighted that I may now start calling you David BedbugsKOOK.

This feels right on so many levels. After all, you are a bit of a bedbug genius, and it's well understood that there's a fine line between genius and insanity. ; P

-Mindover (I've decided to start to use the truncated name edtt gave me. I like it better than my acronym, MOBB)

    Nice, Mindover!

David, Winston O'Buggy has an apostrophe. He's an Irish enigma.

    Mindover,

I think most would agree I fell off that line when I decided to become so obsessed and focused on bedbugs. I suppose I am one of the few who actively seek out encounters with bedbugs rather than just seeking to avoid them and to most that is 100% insane.

Although sanity is very much a perspective, my loon-O-meter regularly goes off when hear "I know EVERYTHING about bedbugs because I have read Wikipedia". It's lot like you would ever meet the surgeon pre-op and declare you know all about what they are about to do.

Apologies to Mr O'Buggy I owe you a Guiness as a peace offering although if I were you I would parly it up to lunch at the Ecuadorean restaurant I like in Long Island City.

    David,

I have a question for you. I am terrified of getting bed bugs, not by bringing them in myself but from a NEIGHBOR. I take many precautions myself and already have mattress and box spring encasements on my bed, vacuum regularly, clean non stop and take necessary steps to avoid bb when I travel. However, I live in a 4 story apartment building that has roughly 40 individual units. The building is older and there are small cracks and crevices between the floor and the wall. I know from my research that bb can easily travel from apartment to apartment causing an extreme full blown infestation in a short period of time.

My landlord doesn't seem to think we need to take any preventative measures but I want to do everything possible to protect my apartment. Should I be caulking the floorboards? I have heard mixed messages about this (some say no because if there is an infestation in time than the pesticide can't get to the infected area). Should I talk to my neighbors about preventative measures? I don't want to cause panic but I also want the people around me to be education and take the necessary cautions. I don't think most people realize what a risk this is, especially in a large city.

My apartment is also above an electrical room which has multiple storage units containing neighbor's belongings, further increasing my risk. At this point, I can't sleep or think about anything else, I feel like it is only a matter of time before my building becomes infested (and I know it will take months to eradicate based on my landlords casual attitude toward pest control)

What can I do to safe guard my apartment from future attacks?

    Losing my mind in Chicago

    Hi Kaw,

It's simple, educate everyone, at a minimum all adjoining neighbours:

After education comes early detection so that people can resolve issues long before they are likley to spread through to adjoining units.

David, I have to applaud your excellent taste! Ecuadoran food is one of the most underrated food cultures out there! I spent nearly two months in the country. I love the people and their food!
