As of today, 116 days BB free, except neighbor is infested. Treatment again !

I want to update you all on my BB war. First of all Im happy to say I have not been bitten in 116 days. Yes, I relish each day without a bite. I am diligently on the look out.
When I found my first BB I went to all my neighbors that surrounded me with a sample to show them and ask if they are being bitten. Of course, no one has them, except me. I found this hard to believe, but heck, yeah, I could be the only one that brought them home. That was May 2008. I found this website and started using every precaution I could. I bought allerzip encasements, washed, bagged, and had the PCO come in and spray.Ive dusted with DE. I realized the bldg mgmnt exterminator was a jerk. I went 3 months without a bite. Then a bug bite me while I had my laptop on my lap. I found it walking off me and I killed it. He bite me 10 times as I was moving my computer all the time. My laptop has been bagged. Im afraid to open it and probably wont for 18 months. Exterminator comes back, treats and no bugs so far.
Now for my neighbors. They are infested. A little over a month ago I see throw pillows in the compactor room. Hmmm, looks fishy. Then I get a knock on my door, its my neighbor who tells me she had a bug on her while laying on the couch, but they dont have them anymore because they threw out the pillows that she found the bug on. I made her get the pillows out of the compacter room and bag them and throw them outside. But first, we got a sample bug off the piping..It was disgusting..fecal stains and nymphs running around the pillow. She gets treated by the bldg PCO...very shoddy. They dust drione in the wall voids and spray a little. Here's the best. They dont respond to bites.. Ugh. I make them come into my apt and spray my adjoining wall. By this time I have used the caulking that expands like foam along the baseboard and any little space imaginable. My apartment is like Fort Knox against BB.
This morning I get a knock on my door and its the exterminator. I figured its the roach man doing his monthly thing. I dont have roaches I tell him. He said,,but do you have bedbugs? I said no..nearly 4 months without a bite. But I know my neighbors must because they dont respond to bites and their couch has to be infested because their pillows where loaded with bugs. He tells me that my neighbor is now responding to bites, and his legs are badly bitten. Yay!! I say to myself..now they will properly treat. He came into my apt to look at my adjoining wall. I have no couch or chair in that room and I have everything caulked and a seal of xxl ziplock bags. I told him that if they get treatment, I want treatment even though I have no bugs....yet.
My neighbors have not spoken to me since they found BB. Im sure they blame me for their infestation. Funny, cause I always wondered where my bugs came from and when I found out they had them, I thought perhaps they entered my apt from theirs. .I had a small infestation. No harborages were ever found. As soon as I got bit, I went into action. So who cares if they blame me. At least they will do the right thing now, being that one of them is responding to bites. They took the BB infestation very lightly..like no big deal. I told them if you were responding to the bites you would act different. Now they must hate me..HA! They should love me cause Im the kind of neighbor you want that fights tooth and nail against BB. Now Im hoping they will be diligent against the fight, but I somehow doubt it.. They are elderly and dont have the energy or resolve.
Ill keep you all posted.

Hi,
Its a slightly contentious point but I would personally say that you do not need to get treated just because the neighbour is. You only need to get treated if you have bed bugs.
If we are to preserve the tools we have available to treat bed bugs then we MUST not use them without reason and cause to do so.
You do however need to be vigilant on your inspections and start looking out for the signs of an infestation as well as monitoring bites.
Hopefully you will remain clear through their treatment and once cleared from the building you will hopefully never get them back.
Good luck.

I thought that if a neighbor gets treated, the adjoining apts should be treated as well? The PCO said he would come into my apt and spary my adjoining wall..I wonder now if he is just looking to have the mgmnt pay for an uneeded extermination.
Oh, I am vigilant! I nearly had a nervous breakdown when they were biting me and I dont want it to happen again.

I have a feeling that there are more than my neighbor who has the BB now. They just dont know what they have.
Education, once again, is needed badly in New York City.
My neighbor was going to the DR for allergic reactions. Imagine? and being treated for months. The DR was either making a buck on him or he truly had no clue about BB bites.
So, the PCO is going to knocking on my door this morning. What do I do? Get them to treat again with no sign of BB anywhere in my apt, or hope they dont come in from my neighbor?
Help...I need to know what to do here. They sprayed about 6 weeks ago because my neighbor was infected, but they did a shoddy job. Do I want more poison down? Personally I dont, but if thats what it takes to keep the BB away, Ill do it.
All suggestions appreciated.

Hi
I always heard/read that the generally accepted practice for PCOs was to treat adjoining units in case of the 'fleeing bugs' factor. I could be wrong though so I don't mean to contradict anyone who knows more than I do (and that's probably David C!)
However, if it were my situation I'd get a spray done to be on the safe side. I know chemicals are not good but if it's a choice between bites or chemicals I'd choose chemicals.
It sounds like you've done tons of work on sealing up your place so it greatly reduces the chances of getting them from your neighbours but as we all know, it just takes one or two and you're back to square one.

Well the PCO came when I was at the dentist today. So no additional treatment went down. I did see the bldg mgmnt talking to my neighbor. I overheard him saying something to the effect that she needs to get her son or daughter over to help. Im assuming to move furniture, and remove all their stuff from the closets. Then I saw him in the lobby and he said to me if I see a bug to call immediately. I went on to ask about my neighbor and it seems they have been infested for quite awhile. I knew it. This is not good.
Im so worried..I dont want to be re-infested..Im so paranoid, you have no idea.. I dont want to go through this nightmare again.
I still on the fence as to whether to have the PCO come in and spray my adjoining wall.
