Saw this in bed bath and beyond. It's a mattress encasement (there's also a pad to put between the mattress and the box spring), which the company claims will kill bedbugs. I can't find any reviews (other than the obvious company placed reviews on the BBB website), which surprises me because if this thing is any good it would be an amazing thing to have.

    Anyone know whether it's effective?

Really annoyed that I (most likely) have bedbugs (never seen a one, but have suspicious bites.) Really tired of feeling paranoid.

    Thanks!

This appears to be a permethrin impregnated fabric. I can't weigh in on efficacy, it's beyond (pardon the pun) my expertise. I've also seen permethrin impregnated fabrics now advertised for travel clothes, as well (likely as purported protection against other biting insects).

Any of our experts care to weigh in?

As to your problem, it's hard to tell from "bites" what is biting you (or if your reaction is to some other irritant) and when/where you're being bit. So, it may not be BB, it may not be in your bed and it may not be in your home. As a first step, please read our FAQ to better understand what BB are and are not. If you suspect BB at home, there are tips for inspection in a comprehensive guide from our Resources page (like this one http://www.michigan.gov/documents/emergingdiseases/Bed_Bug_Manual_v1_full_reduce_326605_7.pdf ). Also, there are "passive monitors" on the market that you can use in an occupied room to try and detect BB that are present ("active monitors" are best in vacant spaces).

    Welcome.

    I saw this video yesterday:

The bed bugs showed signs of feeling unwell after a few minutes of exposure, but finally died after nearly 3 hours.

I really wonder if they ever will stay on a fabric for so long. It's against the nature of the bed bug.

I can add that the Permethrin "treated" products do work in keeping bed bugs from living in/on the bed. We used a similar type product that we purchased in England to stop our rental property from getting bed bugs in the beds.
It's not in the nature for bed bugs to want to live on this fabric...at the same time, it kills them if they do

    HI,

I have not tested the products myself but I have heard some very unfavorable comments on the efficiency of the products and I will see if I can get a link to any published articles.

    http://medent.usyd.edu.au/bedbug/papers/aepma_2011_doggett.pdf page 7 in particular

As for the logical of them preventing things living in the bed I would question the logic of anything that is designed or used to diffuse an infestation of bedbugs as this is extremely counter intuitive to efficiently dealing with the issue.

The whole idea sends a shiver down my spine and not in a good way.
