Anyone hear of Silverfish?
(4 posts)-
Anyone hear of silverfish? Ever since The first treatment I have randomly seeing these bugs that are silver, long, and have a powder on them. I've seen one or two downstairs, one on my stairs coming up, two in my hallway upstairs...We live in a somewhat remote area of NJ. (Bear Country they call it) We always have the dehumidifier running downstairs because of moisture. (No smell or anything. I hear some homes have that too) So anyway, I find on the net that these bugs are hard to eliminate as well cause they live in your walls too. SO if these things aren't dying...what make me think is that the bbugs aren't either. PCO made it as no big deal with the silver fish cuz they come from outside in.
ANy knowledge on this?? -
paula, silverfish live in the walls...they like damp and dark but they don't eat YOU....In the first house that I was living in, where my intial infestation showed up, all kinds of bugs started showing up once I began a self treatment. There were lots of carpet beetles, silverfish and centipedes. I think that keeping dampness out of your house is good for your health and the health of the house. Its expensive, but running a dehumidifier is a good idea, and allowing as much sunlight to hit the house as possible, like removing shade trees and shrubs from around the perimeter. I don't know if silverfish can be harmful in any way to a home. I don't think so, but I think you can keep their populations down with less humidity and make sure you don't have any slow drips around plumbing.

Thanks, we checked that. and the house does get sunlight, no trees shading over it. I was just hoping that even thought the silverfish are still here the treatment is working on the bedbugs.....

paula...my gut feeling is that bed bugs seek you out...this forces them to cross over treated areas and chemicals...silverfish live lnside the walls, in insulation etc., ...some will definitely die during treatments...but in order to survive they, unlike bed bugs, do not have to cross over the treated areas to get to their food source...Seeing silverfish imo doesn't mean that the bed bugs aren't being killed off. As an aside, did you see the article that Buggeroff linked??? It mentions the benefits of dry steam and / or steam...I would def. consider steam cleaning your carpets...PLease read this very informative article....Deb
